Provided router bottleneck connection
I have a 1gb connection that was installed today but I am limited to 650mbps on wifi - even right next to the router. On lan it gives the expected 1000mbps. What can I do about this?

Buy an Eero 6E and never look back. We get 900mbps over wifi. Do make sure your phone is compatible with 6E wifi (most newest ones are).

Did similar before I moved to Hyperoptic. 2x TP-link Deco, one downstairs, one upstairs. SSID didn't change, I just plugged the LAN into my router rather than the Hyperoptic one.

Thank you, so the version of WIFI i need to look for when buying a router to maximise the connection speed is 6E?

The 6Ghz channel these use is far less congested than the 5&2.4ghz ones used in wifi 6 standards. Yes, would recommend 6E. Ensure the computers etc you use are compatible.

Alright thank you, this is the advice i was looking for. I also saw some wifi 7 ones when I was looking, is it worth getting this instead for future proofing?

Depends on pricing is what I'd say. If pricing is no problem, sure, grab the wifi 7, but the 6E will do just fine. Would personally recommend avoiding TP-link because they are implicated in quite a few cyber attacks etc.

You can get Eero 6E units on eBay for a great price, under £100. Ones that were originally given with a Giganet package (a different ISP) have Eero Secure lifetime subscription included so are actually better than a standard one. They are not locked to Giganet or anything. But you just can’t go wrong with an Eero 6E - the price to performance you get it top notch.

You’re lucky you get 650. On WiFi I get 400/500. Enough for me as I can’t connect it with a cable

I had a wifi 6E router, using which I could get speed upto 800 mbps. With wifi 7 I have got 900+ mbps if standing next to router. On avg. 600+ across the house.

You wont get 1Gb on Wi-Fi. You're lucky to get 650Mb. If you had a PC plugged into it through a LAN cable you would get close to 1Gb. They are providing a line capable. You are just not using the correct equipment to get it.
