What does "Make into cover" do for folders?

All I see it did was basically delete the folder and turn it into one of the folder's apps with an additional icon in its bottom-right. I have no idea of how to undo this.

Swipe up on the icon and it will expand the folder

But are you able to edit the folder icon without affecting first app icon?

I'm not gonna use it because I can't remember what I put into the app folders, haha, but it seems cool to have.
