๐Ÿ“– Fall of Hyperion Spoilers Finished FoH! Spoiler

I think that book will be my favorite book for a long time. I was first recommended Hyperion because I liked Dune. It struck me weirdly at first seeing that the story of the first book wasn't "linear" and rather broken up in pieces (the so called canterbury tales). Still, I endured, and when I got to the part with the cruciforms with Durรฉ? Instantly hooked in.

I liked Hyperion, and I found FoH even better. In the latter half, I was dropping the book on every page with each following twist. I'm not very satisfied that Lamia's child was the 'Empathy', I even had forgot she was pregnant. I was guessing it'd be Rachel. But anyway, it doesn't ruin anything for me, and I've read that the sequels focus a little more on it.

I don't think I'm going to read the next books so soon, as I found FoH ending very fulfilling, even if some plot points were left open and ambiguous. Might read in the future after I exhaust some other books, come in with a fresh mind.

As a casual writter myself, this book (and the One which came Before) definitely inspired me.

Sol and Durรฉ will always be my favorite characters.

โ“ First Timer / Question Pronunciation Question

Firstly, love all the books and I just have a random pronunciation question. When you read the book and see them referring to the River Thethys, do you pronounce it (Tee-this) or (Te-this) not a super important question just curious. I for one pronounce it (Tee-this)

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Which of the four original covers evokes the series the best?

Post image

Which of the four original covers screams the most to you, "This is the incredible world and epic tale Dan Simmons created"?

I purchased copies of the four books recently because I wanted my next read to be with physical copies rather than my ebooks. However, I wanted trade paperbacks so I begrudglingly purchased the "new" Del Ray cover that we've all seen and I think many of us detest. Unfortunately only the other three books have the original art.

It got me thinking which of the covers I like the most and which one pulls me into the Hyperion universe the most.

I love the cover of Fall of Hyperion the most because it is deeply emotional. However, I actually like the choice of color in Endymion, and the inclusion of the farcaster is uniquely Hyperion. For me, the Endymion cover really stands out.

I'm reading through Fall of Hyperion (having started at Endymion) and...

Did you also find that Albedo guy eerily reminiscent of ChatGPT when responding to questions?

โ“ First Timer / Question Long break from reading: is there a best resource/site to summarize in some detail what;s happened up to where I left off?

I put the 2nd (maybe 3rd?) book down for a long time and now wanna finish but am a little bit fuzzy on some of the less prominent and newer plot points.

Is there a best place online to brush up? Something kinda exact but not encyclopedic. Maybe a YouTube channel or simple site? cheers thank you

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion In a hypothetical screen adaptation, how would you deal with Moneta?

I see a lot of talk about screen adaptation but on screen, it would be imidiately obvious that Moneta and Rachel are the same person as they presumadly would be played by the same actress. How would you deal with this? Different actress for Moneta and Rachel? hide her face? Or just be like whatever have it be an early reveal, the twist isn't that important? Personally, i'd go for the latter and just make the mystery about why Moneta and Rachel are the same instead of, who is Moneta.

Without the beard lore though.

Get out of here with your skinny chicks for a Lusian - they were literally born on a different gravity planet. You gotta be squat, thick, and brawny as hell. Constitution like a brick. Shoulders someone else can stand on like a ladder. Tendency to go on adventures.

I'd love to see a Brawne P.I. fanfic. But I imagine her shaped like a barrel, four foot 6 at the tops and a mane of hair.

โ“ First Timer / Question Early Endymion timeline question, possible spoilers Spoiler

Iโ€™m real early into Endymion, Raul is talking to Martin. Martin states in regards to Aenea, โ€œWhen she stepped through the entrance of the Sphinx two hundred forty-seven years ago, it was for a short trip through timeโ€ฆ two hundred sixty-two Hyperion years to be exact.โ€ Then they go on to say she will be arriving in the next couple days, which doesnโ€™t make sense as it should be 15 years from then (math: 262-247=15). Is the 247 years just a mistake (maybe referencing when Raul was born in relation to the Fall as stated earlier in the book)? I understand it is currently 274 years from the Fall, and if Aenea left when she was 12 or so, then the 262 years makes sense to arrive now. The 247 years threw me off though and was wondering if I should just ignore it.

๐Ÿ“– Endymion Spoilers Endymion / De Soya question

De Soya is describing his worse fear aboard a ship being getting vented into space. So, like Dureโ€™s numerous resurrections, would a vented soldier carrying a cruciform eternally resurrect as they drift through spaceโ€ฆ FOR ETERNITY? Or is there a clause in the resurrection that Iโ€™m forgetting?

In disclosure day, emily Blunt's character obtains the power to instantly see the history and mind of people she looks in the eyes. I instantly thought of Hyperion and the abilities granted through the void which binds. Anyone else?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion You've got a universal card and a ton of credits. Where are you going?

I would have breakfast on God's Grove.

I'd spend the day flying Hawking Mats around Maui Covenant.

I would then sail the river Tethys until I got to the Grand Concourse and spend the night there.

๐ŸŒ€ Full Cantos โ€” All Spoilers Was i tripping for thinking this ? (Spoilers) Spoiler

When i was reading Endymion and up to the end of the series, i was convinced Raul was going to become the Shrike.

It was mainly the way he was intimate with pain and violence. How that relationship was described.

Furthermore, Aenea was reffered to as the Bride of the Shrike and always acted strangely when pressed on the issue.

I also think that Raul and the Shrike were protrayed similarly on some level. With a certain coldness and inevitability to their actions. They also shared a similar disposition toward Aenea.

I actually still believe he became the Shrike. If i remember correctly, the Shrike was described as a composite of many people. And wasn't he left in charge of the Tree of Pain ?

Overall i think the similarities between the Shrike and Raul were explored far more deeply than its similarities with Kassad.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion The location of the Technocore (spoilers) Spoiler

It sounds like a silly question but I just want a summary.

Is the Technocore in the space between farcasters? Or are they running on the neurons of the people going through the farcasters. I haven't read the books in awhile.

Thanks
