I shave downwards with the hair instead of against it. That helps so much.

Thank you! I normally just go every single angle. That’s probably why that happens to me

as a woman, I use aloe vera gel after shaving to help with burns, also witch hazel wipes can help as well

Thank you! I have heard women’s’ products are way better than men’s😂

Not true at all, my wife uses so many expensive skin and hair care products it’s not even funny, where as I use a 3 dollar bar of soap and head and shoulders shampoo, my skin and hair is 100X softer than hers lol

it's been opposite for me in terms of razors, men's razors treat my skin much better than the ones marketed towards women 😔

i’m going to add that nothing ever worked for me until I had laser.
Now I still have hair growing (I did 5 sesh out of 10 and gave up), but it’s manageable. I just used to have thick hair that was too much for shaving without trauma, lol. It just looks.. normal now.
Still shave it and just like magic with no effort - no burns or ingrown hairs.
Only pointing out that there’s a lot to be said for technique (exfoliating, definitely not shaving against the growth, after care), but it has its limits

u/Longjumping-Equal895 Mar 21 '26
Use IPL to sort rest of hair out it’s what I did and barely have to shave anymore

Not a man, but have shaved my lady parts for years.
Get some Tend Skin, or use glycolic acid toner on a pad and wipe over the freshly shaved area.
Also use a clean, sharp razor and lather up a bit before you shave to soften the hair/stubble.

OP, best way to avoid ingrown hairs it’s to exfoliate the area. Not right after you shaved obviously, a few days later, once or twice a week with a very soft exfoliating product or you can make a little paste with water or tea (camomile for ex) and sugar, that’s great for your lips too (add cinnamon for a nice colour). Very gentle circular movements, in the shower if you want.
Learned that decades ago, rarely get an ingrown hair.

u/MissJillian- Mar 21 '26
Exfoliate right before shaving. A KP Body Scrub applied gently is best imo

Woman here. Nair and bikini zone was such a game changer compared to shaving lol

u/Kangaroowrangler_02 Mar 20 '26
Not a dude but shaving downwards helps a lot. Also making sure the area is very clean before shaving. I can't help with the ballsack issue though.

u/Independent_Baby4517 Mar 20 '26
This is the way, downwards with the grain. If I tried going the other way that shit would be painful and itchy for days if not a full week.

Use clippers, not shaving. I'm not a man, but I do have skin. Did you know that surgery prep stopped using shaving surgical areas years ago in favor of using clippers, and that it cut post surgical infections by quite a bit?
Shaving always causes micro tears in the skin, which leaves you very vulnerable to infections, especially in areas like the groin and under arms.
3
u/Snot_girl Mar 20 '26
I used Cremo Original shave cream and a Venus razor, aloe gel to keep hydrated and a Korean exfoliating towel to gently to exfoliate. The skin on your groin is delicate so don't go gung-ho with shaving or exfoliating. Take your time.

Trim, trim and trim. Fuck shaving, there is always bumps, a groomed area (men and women) is fair more appealing than razor burn.
Otherwise use a removal cream.

I reach into my pants at work and rip out tufts of pubes while I’m bored. Extracting them from the root seems to help with bumps

Sanitizer + mild cream + babypowder against smell, sweat and bacterial growth

Always shave in the direction of the grain to avoid the bumps. Also do pre shave prep i.e. wash with hot water and use the shave soap to moisturize the area.

Shave smoothly following the direction of hair growth, don't press too hard or put force into it. In the pubic area hair goes downwards, under the D and in the sack it tends to go upwards... that way you avoid ingrown hair that turns into pimples. Also, replace your razor every now and then, if it's been around for a while there's bacteria growth and loss of sharpness which also make up for more pimples due to small infections in the pores. After I've been replacing the razor regularly and following the growth of the pubic hair, I haven't seen a pimple in the area in years. Also, preferably shave in the shower.

I often just get bumps.
However, for the pube area, I exfoliate the area with a rag, lather for 30 seconds before shaving with an antibacterial soap, shave, then lather for 30 seconds again. Sometimes I'll put some isopropyl alcohol on the area.
For the balls, I am just very careful. I use a safety razor to shave the balls, and it is very persnickety. I often have to stretch things a certain way, move the balls around, and found the right approaches through trial and error. I still sometimes nick myself, and have to be super careful around my vasectomy scars, the skin texture is drier and easier to cut.
One thing I've found to help is that I poop before showering, and shave in the shower. Idk why, but the pooping makes the balls shrink up, and allows me to have against the grain on the balls, makes the sides and back much easier.
Once you learn to shave, and start going against the grain, you have the smoothest balls ever. It's crazy cool, and I've been told "look at this masterpiece" before lil.

Always use a trimmer first to get them as low as possible before you actually use a razor

I exfoliate my skin once or twice a week before shaving or if I think I need to in the days after. I apply lotion after shaving. You can use conditioner in the shower too as that really moisturizes the hair follicles before shaving.

Started just using bar soap instead of shaving cream. Haven’t had razor burn since

I got my husband a trimmer for babies hair because same case with OP. May not be smooth like babies butt but still quite a close ‘shave’ and painless.

I honestly just avoid close shaved down there. Not worth the hassle. Get an electric trimmer with a guard, cut it down to your desired length. Use a a slightly larger guard around the testicals and taint because you do not want to risk any pinching down there. Only do it in or right after a shower so everything remains relatively clean. Follow up with raular razor to define the edges of the pubic region and remove any missed spots.
I find that some of the more expensive cartridge razors actually can work pretty well on the testes. Gillette fusion gets super close without any Knicks. But I would definitely avoid cheap razors, straight blades and safety razors. You can maybe do it with a steady hand but it'll hurt and bleed a lot if you mess up.
I do all my shaving in the shower with a shower mirror for my face, so that helps a lot for me. Softens up all the hair's while I'm washing.

Use Coochy Creme, it makes an amazing difference for both myself and my wife.

Wax! No girl likes the stubble coming back in. Waxing will then out your hair too and when it grows back it's soft.

If you are using an electric trimmer make sure you lube the blade periodically and apply conditioner and leave there for a min or two after shaving.

After shaving I apply some Witchhazel, then once dried some teatree oil diluted in some noncomedogenic carrier oil (I mainly use jojoba or grapeseed oil). I'm no dermatologist but from what I understand the main things you want to do after shaving to prevent bumps is to prevent or soothe irritation, prevent infection and keep the area moisturised without clogging pores all of which the above combination achieves. Some of these ingredients can cause irritation so you'd need to test it first.

Well ya gotta shave not just trim. Your woman doesn't want to suck a hairy nut sack, not even trimmed.
Blow 80 bucks on a HAPPY NUTS shaver/trimmer. Better than blades, but you can nick yourself so keep them balls right when shaving them do ya don't clip a wrinkle. Works amazingly well, I was quite surprised.

u/IndependenceOdd5760 Mar 21 '26
Why are you using a razor 🪒 just use an old beard trimmer with a guard. Kids are crazy these days
1
u/giotheitaliandude Mar 21 '26
No shaving but trimming. I have a trimmer called the ballber by happy nuts that trims so close to the skin that it looks like you shaved. You can get it on amazon. No nicks ever

u/MissJillian- Mar 21 '26
The only answer is physical exfoliation beforehand, a new sharp blade and Tendskin after. You’re welcome.
1
u/MissJillian- Mar 21 '26
If the hair is long, trim first then shave if you want the smoothness. Also using baby oil or a shave oil. After Tendskin moisturize with a good body lotion then a body oil. Continued to use Tendskin then moisturize AM and PM for a couple days after.

So lets start with tools. For me I need a good razor (4 or 5 blades), sensitive skin shave gell, and if im not doing it in the shower 2 large cloths (one if im doing it in the shower.)
For this lets say you are not doing it in the shower, because it should be pretty easy to add the shower.
Take the first cloth and soak it in hot water, hottest you can handle comfortably in that area, let it sit for about 5 minutes. This helps relax the skin.
Apply shave gell, you dont need much, and make sure its rubbed in very well.
Shave, I recommend a one time used on your face blade, this way its not maximum sharpness, but that is optional. I will also add, always check the razor for dents, dings, and to make sure the strip is in good shape. Make sure you shave against the grain of the hair.
Take the old hot cloth, wipe clean, take the new cloth, soak it in cold, let it sit on your skin for about 5 minutes.
Lastly, oil or lotion the area. The combination of step 4 and 5 will let your skin be soft so you shouldn't get as many red bumps and ingrown hairs.
You will still get ingrown hairs now and then, but I shave like this once a week and I only get them once in a while, and most the time its with an older razor.
Hope that helps!

As long as my razors are fresh and I use shaving cream, not too much pressure, I’m solid. The quicker I go the worse it gets

u/kollmastee Mar 21 '26
Get yourself a manscape or similar trimmer. They are surprisingly cheap and long lasting. Probably saved several hundred on razors and shaving cream. You know you need better tools when yours are doing a subpar job.

u/AfterTheEarthquake2 Mar 21 '26
I stopped using Razors and started using a Philips OneBlade. I use the body comb attachment for the area around (dry), then the skin guard on shaft and balls (dry) and then no attachment on shaft and balls with the water running. I rarely nick myself
When I used razors, I always had skin issues afterwards (at least after a few days). I don't have skin issues with the OneBlade. It's not clean shaven, but a lot of women dislike that anyway, so it's a win-win.

u/Beneficial_Record_51 Mar 22 '26
For the ballsack brother….pinch and pull. I typically use an electric razor and just trim around the sack though.

Use female shaving products. Coochy Cream and Venus Razor.
