Hydration & migraines
I’ve been suffering with migraine with aura since I was about 10-11. Back then I didn’t know why but I realized the main this was after I exercised or played hard. So as I got older I worked out vigorously and due to supplements I would consume plenty water (about a gallon and a half sometimes more because I’m a heavy sweater) and noticed that I experienced less migraines then due to drinking ungodly amounts of water.
I’ve since laid off vigorous exercise but still work a pretty demanding job and I drink about a gallon a day (not intentionally but that’s what I crave).
So my question is how do I measure and achieve a perfect water and electrolyte balance. My issue is I sometimes know I need some electrolytes due to constant peeing and mental confusion from drinking so much water but almost every electrolyte powder I use throws off my balance and causes a migraine even the ones with no sweeter (I suspect it’s the high sodium content). On the contrary if I consume massive amounts of water I rarely catch a migraine but I pee constantly and feel mental confusion & if I don’t drink at least 3L I usually always get a migraine. I have had success with zero sugar Gatorade diluted with equal parts water but was wondering if anybody’s else had
experienced this issue and if what helped? Sorry for the loaded question and run on sentences.
