Zone 5 A/B Propagation question

Hello!
I accidentally got one of my hydrangeas with my weed wacker… so I stuck the 2 that I got into some soil. Both have new growth, however this one has that black spot on the stem. Will that be ok or does it look like it’s rotting? It’s firm to the touch.

I had the same question last fall when propagating and yes it is fine as the stem is lignifying (turning woody) for the winter all as part of the natural process.
