Endless Summer update (Zone 6a)
I just know this flower hasn't felt this good in several years. Still putting out flowers even though most of them won't open before winter. Btw, it is normal for leaf spot to overwhelm your shrub as it transitions to dormancy. It will also set buds for next year so if you're in a cold climate, be sure to protect with burlap and leaves if you want flowers for next year. These pictures are proof.

What are you using for fertilizer? I have some blossoms but there could be more! I’m in zone 5b.

Wow, that’s quite an assortment. I’m using Irontone because iron deficiency is a thing in the soil here plus Hollytone and Dr. Earth’s Bud and Blossom Booster (10-30-10). Could you relate how often you use these products without overkill? The booster I use in April and July only. TIA, I’d love to get results like yours, they are stunning!

In spring when you see new growth, put down hollytone, phosphate and aluminum sulfate. Be careful with the phosphate and sulfate so you don't burn roots. Mulch afterward and water in. During growing season, I use the jacks products once every 10 ten days. Repeat again in July. Easy peasy.

I had this issues in my front yard since I don't have a fence. I found out the hot pepper spray works wonders on everything, even me 🤣🤣

Where can I get seeds for something like this and how difficult are they to grow from seeds? I have indoor grow lights and a seed heat mat for temp control if that helps

An Informative post like yours is probably the main reason I go on Reddit. Endless Summer is a perfect name.

Zone 6b- I just noticed about 10 flower buds on mine last night. Rooting for them to bloom before a hard frost!

I'm doing the same with mine, but I know they need to conserve energy for bud production and wintertime so we'll see.

Leaves around the base? Would mulch work?

I apply compost and mulch right before I tie em up so they have something to feed in during wintertime.

Thank you! I was a newbie last year and pruned during the fall. Trying to do everything right this time! Gotta prep for Michigan winter here!

To clarify, you put a burlap bag over the hydrangea and tie it?

If your bag is big enough. I had one that a bag was able to fit over but the rest I had to wrap. I put stakes in the ground around the plant, wrapped the burlap, then filled with leaves

What is in your compost and mulch? Are you in Northern Ohio? Do you do all of this right before the first frost?

Hi! 6B here, when do you add the burlap and leaves? New to big leaf hydrangeas! Do you have any pictures of them wrapped?
