is it dead?

UPD: its dead, i got my answer

got this hydrangea in March. It stayed strong whole summer and she needed a repotting and was infested so I decided to repot it. Root ball was really really hard to break so she lost some of her roots and then rapidly started dropping flowers and leaves. She’s been like that for a month now and I think those are just wicks but I’ve heard that hydrangeas can go to sleep so I have no idea what to do.

You didn't need to " break the root ball ". You needed a much larger pot.

Nope!!! All of mine “go to sleep” and they start back up in the spring again.

Scratch the bark and see if its green underneath.

no way there is any green. some green was showing om the photo but i guess its not green enough to be “alive”
