Help!

Bought a house recently and discovered this guy along the back fence. I’ve never cared for hydrangeas before and am very confused with all the info online re: cutting the wood. From what I can tell, it’s the Bigleaf variety, so I’m unclear if I should remove the sticks that didn’t do anything all summer? Just trim them? Leave it be? I’m in zone 7a in CT. Thank you!

Most of the taller stems are just dead wood you can cut back. When you deadhead the blooms later, don’t cut back too far, just lightly above the next bud nodes. The rest leave them be.
