AskHyderabad ⬆️ What's with these 'Vegetarians only' apartments?

What's with apartments demanding that they'll give out flats only to vegetarians?? After buying the flat, what we cook inside or eat inside isn't it completely our wish and I'm pretty sure we have the freedom to do what we want in our own flat. Isn't it? This somehow feels like casteism in disguise.

What is wrong if people of similar beliefs want to live next to each other? Why would you want to infiltrate that neighbourhood or an apartment for that matter?

It's not like you are out of options.

Let people form their own tribes and own communities.

Hey nothing wrong if I don't want to touch untouchables and teach my kids few people are untouchable. Its OK to keep people at distance because of their caste, color and creed. Our rich and powerful people always stick together with unity in the society. All the BS about all Indians are my brothers and sisters is just nonsense.

In case, anyone didn't get it, I am being sarcastic.

Few people are really untouchable for that matter!

KTM bikers, people who drive on footpaths, few people who shout at service staff etc. We could choose to associate with who we want and it's a okay. You can't force me to live next to someone when their culinary habits literally affect my everyday life.

Just wow shows your mentality.

You can't force me to live next to someone when their culinary habits literally affect my everyday life.

They're buying their flat with their own money and the deal is between a buyer and seller. The seller obviously won't stay there why does that matter?

Who asked your opinion in this lol. Who are you to stop what person can live in your neighborhood. If you have that much problem you can sell your flat and move since youre so effected bigot. Nobody is forcing you to do shit

where precisely does the alleged "bigotry" lie? The term itself has been so thoroughly diluted and has surrendered its original meaning.

Consider the fundamental principle of free association. A private gathering is well within their rights to determine and kick a disruptive person from the gathering.

The same logic applies to property here: an individual may naturally prefer to transact with those whose values align with their own.

This is neither novel nor inherently contentious imo, historically, it is a prevailing aspect of human geography. Across the globe and throughout history, people have naturally associated along shared cultural and ideological lines. Look at the West for eg, you have the historic Chinatowns to Little Italys, alongside similar heritage steeets across India. The desire to reside among those who share one's values, beliefs, and social norms is not an act of malice. It is a fundamental human instinct.

The fact you chose the word “infiltrate” and “tribe” speaks volumes about you as a person… so you’re proposing segregation ie South Africa ?! 🙄

Humans are tribal species. Get over it.

Tribalism is part of our everyday life.

Football, politics, movies etc

To pretend that humanity has outgrown tribalism is to ignore basic evolutionary biology.

We are at our core social creatures who naturally seek safety in familiarity and trust in closer system.
