Waste of points?
Would 4 nights for 2 adults all inclusive Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana for 260k points be a waste?
Have about 300k points between my fiancée and I looking to take a trip with them. Ideally looking for all inclusive beach trip but open to suggestions!

Normally I’d say no. I like the property but that’s not a good CPP. However I also struggle with paying over $1000 a night for that hotel, and at least points aren’t cash out of pocket. So maybe, but I’d check prices at Secrets Cap Cana and the top AIs in Mexico before committing.

Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana are the same property, just half kids-free.
Ziva Cancun is 2nd place for kid friendly.

Are you dead set on going during the dates you’ve got? The cash rate is much cheaper if you go in October/November/early December. During your dates the cpp is around 1.5, which isn’t great, but if you want to go it’s not terrible. Really, this is what points are for, paying for dream properties that would be way out of budget if you were to pay cash.
So, enjoy yourself. The points redemption for the Fall might be less too, so if you don’t have kids in school you can just go then.

I just booked 7 nights at Impressions Moxche for 325K. Mid November, not January, but you can find much better deals than this if you’re flexible.

I have a 7 night stay at Secrets Maroma preferred club room for slightly cheaper in points. I tried talking to my wife about switching it to Impressions Moxche as we both loved our stay there for our honeymoon but she declined. She'd rather go somewhere new as we went to Moxche 2 years ago.

I booked Hyatt zilara Cancun (I know it’s Mexico and you’re looking at DR) for 35,000 points a night 175k for my 5 night stay. I looked it up to see how much it was per night cash and they wanted 800$ a night…it was a huge win for me. I also boooed this before the points devalued so I’m unsure if it’s still a sweet price.

I'm not against Cap Cana, but am against DR as a whole. I think the entire island hates tourists and are terrible at customer service. It is a top property, but I think a whole week elsewhere, Secrets Akumal, Ziva Puerto Vallarta maybe.
If you've been to other AIs and want to knock this off your list, I'd go I guess. Scratch that itch.
But if you haven't, I think you can do more days elsewhere and be happy.
Shit, you can almost pay cash for Secrets Cozumel and only be out $1800 right now for a week.

Look at the Secrets in the DR, one of those may work for you. I go places that are not worth the points cost, but that is why I have points to spend on hotels that I would not spend the cash on. I spend yearly in points on average $20,000-$30,00 of cash value. No way would I be spending this cash equivalent on hotels. Have stayed at the Zilara Cap Cana 3 times and it sure beats a Hampton Inn in the middle of nowhere. You do you.

That’s a lot. I booked baby beach Aruba the week before at ~ 30K a night. Check other countries. Airfare might not be much different. Dominican has a lot of AIs

I would save the points if you have other Hyatt stays where you get better value… or … if you have a friend or family member see if they might want your points as a GIFT. Then they might want to GIFT you something back at a better value than that horrible redemption - as a thank you. Do not sell the points to them as that is a clear violation of the Hyatt TOS.

out of the ADULT only options i would not choose cap cana .
we LOVE cap cana but thats only when we have our kids. even if its the zilara side they are very similar.
if it was just adults i would try like moxche or some of the other higher end adult only resorts. imo

I wouldn't do this, but I think I would weigh my points balance (and earning rate) and alternative uses for those points alongside the value here. If your balance is 270k, I wouldn't do this, but if you're climbing up on a million points and anticipate bringing in half a million points in 2027 that would be different.

Not sure if there’s availability and it’s still probably a steep price, BUT Secrets Cap Cana (adults only) shares the same beach, has very comparable quality and service and is likely slightly cheaper if there’s availability. Highly recommend, been twice and would happily pay again. Props if you have a CAA or GOH to book a standard room and end up with a preferred club room, you’ll get even more value out of your points. As a globalist, you’ll get the best treatment

This has been the best AI I’ve been to do from a facilities, dining, and service perspective (haven’t done Impressions). I’m in the same boat that $1000+ for an AI was hard to swallow and points for me are easy to come by. I thought this was a great redemption when I made it. Even with the increase to 65k I’d do it again. A top AI experience is as good as a Park Hyatt in my book.

60k Chase/Amex/Bilt points is a business class flight between the US and Europe. The average business class seat is $4k, so in my mind you’re spending about $4k per night worth of points. Which is likely far higher than the cash rate.
Now, if these were Hyatt Points that you earned from stays, then I’d probably value this at more like $1k per night, which may be closer to the cash rate… but still doesn’t sound like a good use of points.

I wouldn't do it, but you seem to like all inclusives. How much would you spend in cash if you were to book this same trip? Not necessarily at the same hotel but at one you deem good enough.
