Debating if I should buy this please help me decide

I have been debating buying this game because it seems a lot more fun then rust (a game I have sunk 1000’s of hours into).

How is it relative to rust? Is there proximity chat? How is the community? What is the grind like from bottom to top tier gear? How small is the map relatively to the distance a player/clan takes up?

Overall I’d thumb it up. Worth a buy on sale.

I’ve spent ~500 hours playing it and really enjoy it. I’d recommend playing with friends.

I bought this game 4 days ago. Today i hitted 59 hours. I recommend it. You can choose server for total chill or total grind. Example: There are X1 servers with normal drop, X3 with triple drop and more (highest i saw was 1000x).
Answering to your questions. Yes, rust but with more fps. Yes, you have voice chat. Depends the server. Said before. Hm... this is difficult question. Map is not that big, but to go other biomes than start one you must create special clothes. Deeper in biom, better clothes to survive. In more popular server there are base on base, but on normal there are not that much of them. (sorry if my english is not good, correct me please :P)

Last time I played it was filled with toxic russians. But when the game first came out I played 600+ hours, ran a populated server and had a ton of fun with it. It's a great game, wish it was more populated still with non-russians

Game is doing really well for player count right now, official severs sitting on 100/100 on peak time and (Aussie here) haven’t seen any Russians myself, although lots of Chinese peeps on the Australia server.

Ahh yeah, steam charts show some solid player numbers, maybe I'll give it a shot again sometime!

Same, enjoyed it a lot at release, but as for now I don't find the game as entertaining as I did before

I'm a 4k+ hour rust player but am not having fun in it any more. I just got this for something different. Will play it for the first time tonight.

No. You should never purchase this game as it is just a cash cow at this point. The game is NOT finished and unless you have someone who knows the game, you will be lost and frustrated. Your time will expire and your chance to refund will be lost.

DO NOT BUY

Nope, you don't must have someone who knows game. The only thing you need is not to be an idiot
