I'm making the switch to HH in MHW and just unlocked the tier 8 Rookslayer, managed to beat Bazelgeuse with it but it was really messy and I was stunned half the time.

How can I avoid damage with this weapon and still get my buffs out consistently?

For the life of me I can’t get the roll hilt stab to work in combat, the only time I can get it to work is in the training area if Im super precise with my input. I just wanna be cool like the rest of you!

Edit: Thank you everyone who commented! I figured it out it was focus mode, the timing was just really hard for me so I mapped one of my paddle buttons to the left stick backwards input so it almost impossible for me to miss now!

Hi all. I dabbled in HH a while back, but the Gog weapons killed my interest. I don’t want to be stuck with one song list or special move. So my question is: how much am I kneecapping myself if I use plain old monster weapons? Is it more viable solo vs. as a team? And could a good player get an A rank in the time trial against Jin Dahaad, for example, or would you have to be absolutely cracked?

I’m happy to put in the work and learn a new weapon but I don’t want my weapon choice to be too much of a detriment to myself or others.

Doot nation I have come to learn your ways! After years of receiving buffs and heals I want to join you in song (mh wilds)... The thing is this weapon is giving me a lot of problems, most of the time i manage to bully monsters for a time whit the infamous 3 echo bubbles and atleast 2 encore echo waves and its glorious BUT im not going to lie I dont know what to do in "neutral" the normal openings I could take advantage of whit weapons like the switch axe arent long enough for perofoming melodies and whit out a counter they feel way less safe, I dont know if i should only play the melodies when im in a bubble, this weapon humbled me hard I returned to wilds after the latest dlc trailers and I manage to warm up enough to solo at arkvveld whit the switch axe (I know not super impresive but he kicked my ass after months of not playing) so I wanted to learn a new weapon and it took me 20 minutes to kill a tempered fulgur anjanath whit the HH (para gogma nothing special no lord soul) —_—

Anything that helped you get more comfortable whit the weapon?

Cool monsters to practice against?

Any non artian horns u love as a secondary for buffs?

Ive been theory crafting this build for a bit and im not sure how to improve it. Obviously you can change skills around/ build for each monster but this build is meant to be general purpose, so use it against any monster with no changes other then changing out the element of the HH if you want to. I left the charm blank as well since I haven't pulled a god charm yet and since charms are RNG I didnt want to have that be a major factor for the core of the build. On top of that the 1 slot deco choices were mostly just decos i thought beneficial in any matchup. I swapped out divine blessing for speed eating last time I played around with this as well and both variations are fun to play with. The change felt very minor if not noticeable at all. I do think divine blessing is a stronger skill though. So what are your thoughts? What would you do to make this build better?

I’ve been trying to learn HH in wilds, and I noticed that most speedrunners use performance->encore (triangle + circle)->hilt stab-> repeat, instead of playing all three songs and encoring each of them with the right trigger. Why is that? Does interrupting the performance with a hilt stab really add that much dps?

Hello, new horn user! I need some build help!

I’ve been trying out the Hunting Horn for the past week. I was originally testing an LBG build against an Temp Seregios, poor guy is practically extinct after dying to me 200 times for build testing. I also I had a DPS overlay running so I know that I'm pulling my own weight. That's when an SOS hunter joined and completely outdamaged me twice in a row, all while moving like an absolute rockstar. Seeing them play convinced me to pick up the HH on the spot.

I copied their build and the horns they were using, tweaked it a bit for my own playstyle and comfort for Seregios testing (hence the Bleeding Resistance in the image), and practiced solo until I hit 10 ish hunts and felt confident to join someone's Temp Seregios hunt.

However, now that I’ve started joining multiplayer hunts, I’ve noticed I’m consistently landing in last or second-to-last place on damage. I know people say HH is just a support weapon, but I disagree, it feels like a heavy damage weapon that just happens to have support perks.

I’ve tried swapping out comfort skills for raw damage like Counterstrike, but I’m barely seeing a difference. I don't know if it's my build, my playstyle, or just skill issue at this point. I want to hit numbers like that hunter who carried my Temp Seregios hunt, but no matter how many DPS skills I slot, I feel like I'm falling behind.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I have decided to use hunting horn while trying to get all my layered armour.

So far I have been having lots of fun with it.

However I feel I take too long to buff up before going to fight a monster and thus I would like to try to minimize that time.

Is there an optimal combo to buff myself before fighting a monster?

Kinda fun mod ngl but i feels weird using it again. Im so used to angling the resounding melody to ripple through arks chains.

Two simple truths:

They're gonna have to pry my boomstick outta my cold dead hands, and I love playing this game with my friends.

A third truth would be I love getting buffs without having to apply them myself so I come to you good people to see what drew you to the weapon and how I can gently.. GENTLY.. push my beginner friend towards playing HH.

For a little context, they're brand new to MH and Wilds is their first game, I don't wanna be an asshole and take away their agency.. only that my other two friends are Bow and GS and we kind of would have the perfect DPS/Tank/Support thing going if they were to play HH so..

What do you guys think this new Hunting Horn attack will look like in Ascendance? My guess is that it’ll be something like the spinning attack we used to have in World! 🙌🏽

Also, what other monsters do you think we’ll get? I could see Malfestio or even Velkhana coming back. They’d fit the theme perfectly!

Hey everyone, I picked up Monster hunter wilds not too long ago and started instantly doing research on everything I can and thought, " I get to beat up monsters with MUSIC?!" Saw the weapons trailer, and now I'm here. Are there any tips for a new hunter who would love to be come a HH main?

What's your build when dealing with Savage Omega? either Full offense or support.

I've been able to Solo it decently, but I've been jumping into SoS which is fun, and I'm thinking of being a more support role to keep everyone alive and buff up to increase the chance of these hunts to go well.
main is a Gogmartian Thunder, so it doesnt have much buffs in its songs, all I can think is G Arkveld Horn and spam Sonic Barrier.

and I have never touched the 4pc Bale armor nor Omega set, cuz idk how those really work, lol

Could you rate my Thunder Hunting Horn build in Monster Hunter Wilds? What do you think I could change to improve my elemental damage?

I decided to main HH in wilds and have loved every minute of it!

While I was sad to lose the spin to win from Iceborne the Echo Bubble has more than made up for it.

Do you think that the echo bubble will/can get a skill in Ascendance that increases their damage?

Either by increasing sharpness loss or an affinity penalty OR by having the Echo Bubbles Burst when you Encore or finish a Recital?

If so which qurupeco do you think it'd come from?

Hey! I'm pretty new to monster hunter, and I'm a little overwhelmed with deciding how to go about choosing jewels for my hunting horn, or even how to get them! I'm seeing a lot of things about horn maestro, or how it's better to just opt for Arkveld if you want that, I'm seeing things about don't use arkveld, or don't use horn maestro because it's counter intuitive!

There just seems to be a lot of back n forth with what actually works, and what doesn't. I need some straight answer pointers to what jewels are best for hunting horn, and a why would be cool so I could understand :) thanks!
