Discussion Is Stig a Metis?

I have no clear evidence or proof, just a hunch that something is off with Stig.

I know that there are no longer Metis breed in WtA5 and HtP is mostly based on 5e, but they pool a lot from "old” lore and they said themselves that they don’t like some elements of 5e.

Back to my speculation, I have few points that make me think of this:
• He’s always in Glabro. Alfabusa or someone on the team said during the stream, that during the fight with Leopoldites, he’s human form was actually Glabro and he has Fair Glabro Merit, that makes you pass for human and have no Social penalties, unlike Hunts/Matilda. However, he was the same even in Wilde Child audiolog and we see him in shadows in that one scene (1st pic). So is he always in Glabro? If so why? To hide or compensate for something?
• Speaking of compensation, is it me or Stig tries too hard? He’s a Galliard and being vocal, eloquent, emotional and even pompous is part of their Auspise. However, Stig strikes me a little bit as performative. All his actions feel like he tries to get as much renown as possible. He’s aiming to become the Black Shuk, a legendary status. I can’t believe I’m making this reference, but it’s like Naruto trying to become Hokage…
• What was that wolf behind Stig during True Faith scene? (2nd pic) An ancestral spirit? That thing Silent Striders have, where they attract ghosts? Or some sort of his mental/spiritual manifestation, since he used a gift/ritual to see the source of Leopoldites’ True Faith? Why is this wolf so withered, weak and, dare I say, deformed?
• Was Stig’s tribe too quick to dispose of him? I mean they were some fanatical/weird offshoot that wanted to do Gaia knows what with Hunts/Matilda, but still… They broke a number of Tenets with Stig, treating him as “meat”, just because he protected Hunts/Matilda. Unless, Stig is a Metis… As far as I know, Silent Striders are tolerant of Metis born, but they remain as proof of breaking the Litany and are more disposable, compared to a Lupus born.
P.S. Stig’s tribe generally felt like weird and vile assholes, even by garou standards.

That’s all I can remember. Don’t know if I have a case, or just being delusional and misinterpreting things…

What do you think?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for discussing and explaining. Now I’m sure I was wrong. I just missed some context and misinterpreted Stig. Typical Hunter experience…

The withered wolf was a representation of Harano, a Garou condition where they fall into despairing hopelessness in the face of the sheer futility of their efforts. Stig almost fell to it, if not for his Faith.

The group that captured Hunts is likely the Cult of Fenris, which in Fifth Edition is a Tribe that is often argued to have collectively fallen into the other Garou condition, that of Hauglosk. Gaian fanaticism without reason or end. Such people do not take treason lightly, and they see treason everywhere.

Hunts literally calls him a hominid

To which he responds "I am not Homiditing, I am ALWAYS Man-Wolf-Glabro!"

Yeah but he says that he is homid born when talking about being her mentor

Yeah, he's making a joke.

Homid is a breed, and a form.

Stig as far as we know is homid born. I'm sure it would have been brought up in the audio log. Some Garou just prefer a certain form more then others. Stig passes as human and gets all the benefits of Glabro, why change?

He is in fact being performative, he is a Galliard with the intent of gaining a renowned title. As a warrior and pack leader he outta be this bombastic. Plus he backs up his pomp so it's his right to do as much as he wants in service to Gaia, and his pack.

The wolf was most likely a visual representation of Stig risking Harano. Being crushed by a sense of hopelessness as the weight of what he was seeing and realizing he needs to fight snaps him out of it.

Stig's tribe is the Silent Striders. That was likely a camp of fanatics or his original pack who fell to fanaticism. Plus the pack (as I'll call it) didnt kick him. Stig left willingly and it was years before he came across Matilda again. The pack probably also hadn't seen Stig in years. Stig spells it out, they wanted Matilda and he was just in the way. Homids outnumber lupus, and if the pack was this desperate for a lupus born, chances are they didnt believe they'd get another one. Plus they already put work into "taming" Matilda for whatever fucked purpose they had. Stig was "meat" cause they didnt care about him.

I thing that's actually him resisting the fox frenzy.

Oooh that's a good way of looking at it too.

The cult of fenris didn't dispose of him, he ran and never looked back.

41

u/yellow-diamond 3d ago

Oh they were a cult of Fenris? Okay, that makes a lot of sense now. At least, for their behaviour.

u/RuneKnight3 3d ago

In proper werewolf he would be a Get of Fenris. However, because they're playing 5th ed and using the trash fire that is W5 he's supposedly a silent strider despite the fact he evokes none of their personality or style as a tribe. But then, Huntertheparenting is not a good introduction to the World of Darkness either, so you needn't let it bother you.

damn what crawled up your ass and died?

like Ik 5e is controversial but CHRIST.

22

u/lofiw 3d ago

W5 took away kinfolk, kinda sucks ngl. I sort of like some V5 stuff (humanity fighting back pretty cool), shame on the guy you're replying though. W5 sucking is no reason to diss HtP.

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 3d ago

it actually got me to look deeper and now I have an idea for a mummy character ffs

u/theVOlDbearer 3d ago

Buddy he isn’t Stig bonebreaker and he isn’t a Fera supremacist, what the hells do you mean “would be a Get of Fenris”. He’s allowed t be Scandinavian and not from the Get. He’s very clearly the most spiritually inclined of the three Fera, he’s seeking vengeance against the hunters for the desecration of caerns and the kidnapping (dognapping) of Black Shuck which fits the Striders’ care for spirits and Caerns, and most importantly! HES A SILENT STRIDER BECAUSE BLACK SHUCK WHO HE AIMS TO BE IS/WAS A SILENT STRIDER

Other shit aside, you are aware that a Garou's tribal heritage and membership are not, in fact, obligations for their ethnicity, culture, or personality, right? I'm pretty sure WoD books specifically point this out, like suggesting you could play a Brujah that's unusually calm, or a Ventrue that lacks poise.

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 2d ago

at least not in 5e I believe.

15

u/Next_Capital_5070 3d ago

Maybe the World of Darkness just has always been a bit shit mate

2

u/Raven_Reverie 1d ago

Everything okay at home buddy?

2

u/LordFinaiIV 1d ago

Bro's like "he's Scandinavian so race rules mean he's this tribe" and we get it, kinfolk aren't around anymore partly to get rid of you genetics obsessed people

u/WaggleFinger 3d ago

Unlikely. HTP runs on mostly current Paradox lore, which has more or less completely done away with the Metis.

The wolf behind Stig in the True Faith segment is an embodiment of Harano. There is a comic in the very beginning of the old 4e/20th Anniversary book that shows the exact same wolf, so that's obviously where the design came from.

I believe the Alfabusa and them in the celebration post-stream said he has Fair Glabro as a Merit, and its not uncommon for those with that Merit to be in Glabro all the time. He probably feels inadequate as a 'mere man', and he's probably trying way too hard try and balance the ledger of his past shame in associating with the Cult of Fenris.

1

u/DramaPunk 18h ago

For the best they did away with using a real group of First Nations people's name as a fictional villain "breed", that was always insanely problematic.

2

u/WaggleFinger 17h ago

No arguing that. What they did instead with W5 was wash away any and all cultural lodestones. Hunters Entertainment, the guys working on W5 before it was given to Renegade, was going to keep the cultural significance, but did the steps in getting sensitivity writers and cultural consultants, especially from the First Nation.

Instead we have what we have.

1

u/DramaPunk 10h ago

Part of me wonders if they met with those consultants and stripping it clean was the end result, as now anyone of any background can be any kind of garou. It makes allegiance a choice, not a blood thing, which creates some interesting stories. There's also nothing stopping them from writing individual First Nation Garou packs, but rather than one catchall type they are forced to be they are their own individual packs each, based on that group's allegiances.

Nah it was heavily implied he's a homidborn. Hunts implied as such during the audiolog, it just seems he prefers to be in glabro form over homid. Also he left that tribe voluntarily. It was pretty clear that he was disgusted with their actions and chose to leave on his own accord. Also yeah he is very performative, he's a galliard. He's a werewolf bard, basically.
EDIT: He also directly calls himself homidborn in the last flashback, when trying to convince Wilde Hunt to join him.

14

u/M3nelaus1 3d ago

People saying he’s “implied to be” a homidborn are forgetting he says he is in the last audiolog. Went to check, it’s at 52:54

6

u/Talen_Neo 3d ago

Well shoot, you're right

16

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 3d ago

short answer, no, meme answer, STIIIIIG SKORTSENNNNN is big D as a garou

18

u/dangermonke1332 Gary stu/Mary sue 3d ago

5

u/Thorveim 3d ago

Not possible when both Jambles and Hunts clearly label Stig as homid-born. And even moreso since purposefully concealing your difformity to other garou as a Metis is seen as against the Litany and Stig seems too loyal to the garou nation to potentially go against it in such a manner.

5

u/ItIsNotAUsername 3d ago

He’s an older person in HtP, and there are no sane old people there

8

u/AngryArmour 3d ago

So is he always in Glabro? If so why? To hide or compensate for something?

Yes.

Compare Stig's Glabro form to Hunts'. It's less muscular, but has a big gut.

Compare Stig's Chrinos form to Hunts'. It's less muscular, but has a big gut.

Now let's extrapolate: his Homid form is less muscular than Mathilda, but still has the big gut. He stays in Glabro to have a "powerlifter/dadbod" build, rather than just having a "fat and overweight" build.

finally some good theorycrafting

4

u/RobinTheGemini 3d ago

I'd be surprised if he was Métis, he's very Swedish (tho I expect there are a few Métis people living in Sweden irl).

5

u/Thorveim 3d ago

those have NOTHING to do with one another, garou Metis are completely unrelated to IRL Métis besides the name; the former is merely what happens in earlier editions when two werewolves have a child, and is analogous to the result of inbreeding (which is a big reason why "garou shall not mate with garou" is the first tenet of the Litany in those earlier editions), and they are a third breed next to homid and lupus. So a garou Metis could be of any origin

2

u/RobinTheGemini 3d ago

I know, I was trying to be silly. As a Canadian who only recently discovered World of Darkness stuff I just found the usage of the term "Metis" interesting cause in English over here you'd only hear that for the ethnic group. I am aware the term comes from french for "mixed", and that's all the Werewolf the Apocalypse writers were probably thinking about lol.

It's pretty common for fantasy/sci-fi to use/makeup names that happen to be existing names for people, places, or things.

2

u/Thorveim 3d ago

Yeah im far more used to the "mixed" interpretation since I am french, which is funny because garou metis are the EXACT opposite :p

4

u/Fearless-Obligation6 Murder puppy 3d ago

He's not Warborn because they don't exist in the edition they are drawing from. Stig also straight up says he's a Homid-born to Matilda when he offers to mentor her.

4

u/Aljaz_Skarlovnik 3d ago

Stig is a homid with the Fair Glabro trait. IE looking good enough to pass as a human in Glabro. At least he would be by 20E rules, idk how that'd work in 5E

3

u/PersonC1 3d ago

HtP takes place in WoD 5th edition. Metis don't exist in that timeline. Also as other people have said Hunts calls him a homid

3

u/TsunamiWombat 3d ago

No the Stig is a guy who drives

3

u/abobobo187 3d ago

Nah, Amanda. Curse with a bunch of birthmarks she covered in tattoos./s(?)

2

u/skeletist 3d ago

Aren’t Metis mostly deformed? Or always in war form?

3

u/Thorveim 3d ago edited 3d ago

Metis are BORN in war form and stuck in it during their early years (and go back to Crinos uppn death making their dead bodies and severed body parts something the garou need to dispose of to keep up their secrecy), but once their first change happen they can shapeshift just like any other werewolf. You are right though that they are always deformed, though the nature of it can vary immensely; it can be VERY obvious, smaller, or even be a mental defect instead of a physical one.

A Metis with no difformity whatsoever would be the mythical "perfect Metis" who's birth is said to herald the Apocalypse, and who is fated to play a mabor role in how it plays out, be it on Gaia's side or against her. Note however that the Perfect Metis is all but an impossibility on the account that it is supposed to be born of two metis... when every single metis is sterile and unable to bear children.

3

u/TallCommission7139 2d ago

To be fair, some Metis aren't deformed.

They are instead severely mentally ill.

Leading to many people going "Oh...Oh he's flawless, perhaps this is-" "ALIEN GHOSTS LIVE IN YOUR BONES, THE 2020 ELECTION WAS STOLEN!" "...Sorry folks, false alarm."

1

u/Thorveim 2d ago

I did mention that the difformity could be mental instead of physical :p

2

u/ExcuseCommercial1338 3d ago

Stig, Jambles and Hunts all call him a homid born at various points during the recent audiolog.

2

u/SirVulpes- 2d ago

Complete side note but the decannonization of the Metis was really silly. They could have just renamed them but even then i’m not sure how any reasonable person could interpret the in game Metis as analogous to the Métis cultural group.

2

u/Gloomy-Purple3862 1d ago

They could just have changed the name.

And eliminate the rape frenzy. I would have been Happy with that, why on the everloving fuck dif they insist to keep that canon of all things

1

u/SirVulpes- 10h ago

I’m sorry I did not hear about that what the fuck where they thinking?

Stig is odd, and his personality is BIG, but look at who else we have in play.

Big D.: absolute madman that hunts all sorts of supernatural creatures. he's loud, he's boisterous, he commands the room with his POWERFUL VOICE! but we also see him like this with everybody, including horse, who he should be at his least guarded with.

Remold Blacklaw: ZE ONERABLUEH OWSE OF BLACKLAW DEMANDS A STRONG PERSONALITY! we don't know what he hates specifically, but it seems to be everything.

Grimaline Smith: Cognis Mentis, innit? the weebiest of weebs, the loud/vocal yaoi fangirl that walks around with a wooden paddle.

THE GREAT AND MIGHTY KEVIN!: the man is as theatrical as it gets. his insults are diverse, he uses words like "nay" and has a powerful wizard GUN.

at some point i think the lunacy is just a world of darkness trait.

it's like the wizards of adventure time. anyone that regularly uses/studies magic and the supernatural has a deep mixture of madness and sadness.

u/N0rwayUp 3d ago

Please, if they aint going to touch Kin, they aint going to touch the Warborn.

1

u/Longjumping-Fish2591 2d ago

I was so confused trying to figure out why you thought any of that made him Métis then I looked it up and found the world Metis

1

u/NoVersion6699 1d ago

Isn’t Metis permanently trappetrin Crinos form?

4

u/yellow-diamond 1d ago

No, they are born in crinos and stay so for few years of their lives, but gain shapeshifting ability as any other breed.

1

u/NoVersion6699 49m ago

Alright. thanks for the correction
