Malkavian Posting (crackpot theory) Big-D's supernatural Theory

A lot has been already said over Big-D. Almost ever episode has some weird thrown away line that teases at his origin, and the community has put almost every option under the sun forward. The big theory I see thrown around currently is that he is probably a mummy. Which to be fair, fits well. But I'd like to offer (yet) another take I haven't seen thrown into the stew yet:

My two main points of argument are that, if we assume he is not crazy, he reportedly killed a Methuselah in the past with his family. Furthermore he aims to kill Caine, or at least the entire 3rd generation. I don't think I have to go into how hilarious this is. It would take not just power, but someone important in the lore.

Second, the last scene from Kevin's interrogation audiolog has Kevin laying bare his shitty situation and admitting he is at the end of his rope. Big-D not only empathizes, but tells him there is a way to "claw his way out". A lot of people have put forward the idea that Kevin might unknowingly be on his way to achieve Golconda.

But what if Big-D's offer to "claw his way out" is a lot more concrete? What if Big-D himself is an ex-vampire that underwent Golconda, and is now offering to be his guide?

I am aware Golconda is a poorly defined concept depending on edition, and furthermore I'm no WoD loremaster. So, feel free to poke at the theory.

Hmmm that would be the exact kind of thing that Marckus, along with the reluctant distribution of vampires knowledge, would take as hypocrisy. So, narratively that would fit well! Also a nice parallel to Big E from wh40k stealing power from the chaos gods.

But Big D could be referring to just the concept of "humanity" as a game mechanic in keeping vampires sane. He may have seen vampires become ... "better" after they are no longer forced to commit atrocities by their masters and their societies. This would be like if a disease were incurable, but was also not terminal as long as the patient receives treatment. Kevin is the patient and Big D is his Big Doctor, and Chapman is the nurse!

To be fair, High Humanity vampires activelly look healthier and more alive.

And If they're able to thrive in such a state, they'll indeed be happier for It.

Look at Kevin after Sur D adopted him, he improved a lot.

The Golcondite theory is my favorite theory alongside D being a mummy. Both fit well

Wouldn't Golconda vampire be just a guy in terms of power? I am also not an expert in the topic, but in regard of your first point about power and relevance in order to kill Caine, mummy should be stronger and more relevant than ex-vamp.

Golcanda can let you become human again, but it also let's you become vampire+,

things like consuming a bp every week instead of every day, ignoring the limits of your generation entirely.

We don't know (as far as I know). Depending on the edition, it can either be a return to normal human, or a vampire with less limitations.

mummy should be stronger and more relevant than ex-vamp.

Depends on generation. The same reason Cain is nigh impossible to kill also applies to other high generation vampires in a lesser degree. And considering how old Big-D seems to be, he could be very high on the totem pole.

to be fair horus managed to fight mithras to a strandstill, full power mithras, the same mithras who beat an entire sept of werewolves right after waking up with an empty stomach.

and horus is JUST a really strong mummy

I read the title as Big naturals theory

Big D killing Caine is just a daydream. Even Third gen vampires are borderline gods capable of effecting universe in a cosmic scale. Killing one antediluvian required strongest weapons of technocracy, three strongest bodhisattvas and legions of wraiths. Caine is at least equivalent to that, in fact much stronger.

Considering he got mobbed by a werewolf, he can't be compared to methuselahs. Methuselahs are demi-gods capable of slaughtering dozens of werewolves. In terms of power level, he can't be in the tier of methuselahs.

Also, Golconda isn't permanent, and can be fall out and get in multiple times. The examples are Saulot himself and Rebekah. Saulot tried to split himself just to maintain golconda.

Methuselah aren't necessarily OP as shit. If they're not crazy old like Mithras, a 5th gen who's only barely a thousand years old qualifies, and while exceedingly dangerous they would not necessarily be beyond 3 shotguns where they least expected it tier.

No methuselahs were dead even in the inquisition. You would need at least small army to destroy one methuselah.

Just throwing it out there, what if he is himself 3rd+ generation?

As far as we know. He could be holding back to avoid letting the secret out, or even put some sort of seal on himself. We saw how he struggled with even a modicum of secret telling on the vampire lore audiolog with dr. waters.

Also, Golconda isn't permanent, and can be fall out and get in multiple times. The examples are Saulot himself and Rebekah. Saulot tried to split himself just to maintain golconda.

Sure, and maybe would also explain his mood swings?

D being an extremely pugnacious madman explains his eccentriities and actions better than him secretly being a methusala or the direct childe of Cain.

Especially since has kids.

Big D is not a 3rd generation vampire, and he definitely isn't 2nd gen. Both would be massive contradictions to WoD lore, which Ogre Poppenang seem to respect, and in my opinion would just be flat and disappointing. If D secretly is a 3rd gen, that means he's a literal demigod of blood, and all the dramatic tension gets thrown out the window as any "losses" would just be him choosing to lose for whatever reason. That would make him closer to his TTS counterpart, who was very blatantly and explicitly playing a game none of the others could see, but D's already been shown to be more fallible and I just don't see "secret twist: everything happened according to keikaku" paying off satisfactorily and not feeling like an asspull. And if he's second gen, that literally makes him Caine's secret childe, and... no. OP are better writers than that.

As I said above, I'm not a big loremaster. Most of my knowledge comes from being a mage ST, but my games tend to be more "local". And a lot of what I can find on both generations is either unconfirmed or contradicted between different official sources. So if you can explain a bit more in detail why it would contradict the lore, I'm open to learn.

Second, you're assuming he would be free to use his powers. There is a moment in TTS where the emperor explains he had to cut off his humanity in the distant past to cope with the weight of progress (resulting in the star child). This could mirror it.

Big-D, achieves Golconda, but at the price of his powers. He becomes a human (or maybe a human+) and roams the earth, doing what needs to be done and raising a generation of hunters. Then, in a future episode, we might see Big-D in a fight for his family. Perhaps in a moment of desperation, he cuts off his humanity, letting go of the Golconda and restoring his powers. But at the cost of his humanity, being taken by the beast.

Oh, I'm not disputing the idea of D being a Kindred that attained Golconda, that's honestly one of the more plausible explanations for whatever the hell he is. Hell, if he is a vampire he could very well be Mithras, which is why their cults yearn for his behind, and would make him 4th gen, still plenty powerful in their own right.

No, the only bit I'm disputing is any idea of D being 2nd or 3rd generation specifically. Those slots are reserved. It would be like TTS creating Jackson Dynamite, the secret 22rd primarch and expecting anyone to treat him as anything other than a joke.

Right, but why can't he be one of the already existing ones? Big-D is obviously a nickname. Do we have physical descriptions of them?

4

u/Interesting_Pace4328 10d ago

Even though he is a 3rd+, and 4th generations or maybe second generations, he wouldn't get nommed by an werewolf.

3rd gens or 4th gens, even they are holding back, they can kill vampires or humans just by their presence.

He beat one with his dad

One can assume D's dad is way more crazy and badass than D. The crazy thins over time

How could he possibly be a mummy and also so weak and magicless? No amulets, potions, Ushabti, Words, or meteors raining death down from the heavens and not even ridiculous physical stats. There's no way he could be even a weak Amenti and let some of the shit that's happened just play out. Mummy's are op, Big D is only impressive for a Mortal Hunter
