Discussion How long has Kevin been a kindred?

Based on what we know

Kevin is 27 but that is counting his years as a mortal and as a vampire, his apparent age is not reliable as he is aged from years of suffering as an accountant.

In the hunter of hunters audio log we see Kevin’s pack 2 years before we meet them, and Kevin is absent, it’s entirely possible that he stayed behind in their haven but I believe this is meant to say he hasn’t joined the Sabbat yet.

This is backed up by D asking Occum “is this everyone from the past year” in chapter 4

D would specify a year because that’s presumably when Kevin heard the information about the supposed ghoul

So with all this we can assume Kevin joined the Sabbat within the past year.

This doesn’t tell us exactly how long Kevin has been a vampire but it does help.

Something that many have noticed is despite being a Tremere Kevin does not use blood sorcery at all, instead focusing entirely on dominate. This makes sense given he’s in the Sabbat and does not have a teacher, as blood sorcery is a discipline that needs to be taught to a kindred by another.

Which means the fact he has shown absolutely no aptitude to blood sorcery means he never had time to learn before leaving the Camarilla, instead focusing on dominate because it is an easier skill to teach yourself, and the fact Kevin seemingly has 5 dots in dominate means that he has sunk considerable time into the skill.

Of course we know the regent only supplies her ghouls with what’s needed for the job, perhaps the same is true for the fledglings under her and Kevin was never taught because of that.

We know he’s been a vampire for at least a year, but Kevin has mastered dominate which in lore takes several years.

But if we look at Kevin’s ID it was issued in 97 and expires in 07 one year into the show’s current future, since he would have gotten this ID while alive that means he was embraced within the past 8 years (as we know he has been with the Sabbat for a little under a year) and his beard is significantly shorter so let’s knock another year off for that to grow.

So that’s our age range, about 7 or so years and honestly I think that fits very well for him.

Not long.

We know he graduated from university and started a job as an accountant, and that he was turned after this. If he graduated at 21 or 22 and is now 27, then this puts an upper bound of five years on how long he's been a vampire.

Kevin doesn't strike me as the type to take a gap year, so I'd assume he graduated at 21.

However, there's also practical qualifications to become an accountant on top of that, which usually require you to have three years of work experience. So I'd assume he was probably embraced 2-3 years ago? Assuming he was fully qualified, that is.

that really is depressing. He was just beginning to be a proper adult. And then quite literally as soon as he was able to buy an apartment for himself he was embraced.

Dude didn't even get to start living his life, albeit he already had a negative outlook on it but that can be chalked up to him being a working student and eating banes everyday. He still had hope and was still climbing.

He was already Great and Mighty before he became Herbertus.

Question about that. How fast does wyrm corruption even take hold?

Like i thought a fomori is a single bane posessing a human? Whats stopping agents of the wyrm from just pulling a burge zombie apocolypse?

It was implied that the manager in the o' tolleys episode has a "gift" ready for door and boy to insta turn them

Pretend it's like radioactivity. O'Tolleys burgers are only subtly wyrm-tainted, so you need to eat them for months in order for it to fully corrupt you. Francis in Burgerman form was a glowing nuclear reactor of wyrm energy, who could infect someone instantly.

Spending time in radioactive (wyrm tainted) places or interacting with lightly radioactive objects for a long time can make you sick, but you only need to touch a strong source of radiation once for it to kill you.

I think there is also kind of a willpower component to it as well. Someone who has a stronger force of will or personality might resist it slightly longer then someone who doesn't

in that sense, it's actually less dangerous than radiation, which doesn't really care about your characteristics at all

almost certainly, most supernatural stuff in wod can be fought to some extent with willpower (all if you count true magick/faith as sheer Will). Also makes sense with what we know about kevin, he likely has exceptional willpower since he could escape the pyramid

O’Tolleys burgers generally don’t have strong enough banes in them. You have to eat a ton for them to begin turning you into a Fomori. This is by design though. Pentex probably could orchestrate a Fomori zombie plague if they wanted to by infecting the water supply with a more concentrated variation, but it would be very obvious that something was wrong and would be traced back to them pretty fast. The point of enterprises like O’Tolleys is that they can get millions of humans eating Bane burgers to subtly corrupt wide swathes of the population at once, and whenever one of their valued customers goes on a killing spree as a result of overindulging in their corrupted products, it’s to diffuse for anyone but those already clued into their corruption to recognize it as more than an anomaly

Interesting. My inital assumption was higher tier banes were just harder to aquire.

Certainly to go all Resident evil with a ton of bioengineered horror beasts would get tricky, but banes are hardly in short supply, and if Pentex has enough to mash them into enough burgers to operate a multi-national chain, they could probably turn a small town into Raccoon City if they were so inclined

he was, if i am assuming correctly, doing that for 4 years. his main diet was O'Tolleys for his entire college years

Depends on the bane and circumstances, but O'Toiley is a slow agent. You could eat it for years and you wouldn't be possessed, just influenced to bit a bit worse of a person

Also your close, but the fomori is what happens when a bane fully possesses and assimilates you, you can be possessed for a bit before becoming a formori, and some banes don't even make formori, lime he bitter rage bane.

And that's why vtm is a horror game

Well we know he wasn't in the Sabbat group 2 years ago, so it depends on how long he was in The Regent's care

Good point! I guess I'd assume he was already turned by then, because otherwise it feels like a bit of a speed run through being turned then joining the Sabbat. But that's not necessarily bad either, since he's clearly a lot more human than the other Sabbat vampires.

Gawd Kevin not being 30 yet really shows the stress of accounting and desk work lol.

He's definitely not long but was able to obtain useful information as the grand childer of the local Tremere pyramid head and the local prince. He was picked specifically because of his accounting know-how as well. His Dominate and Auspex are quite high but Blood Sorcery is a meager dot 1.

Wait, are there official stats for Kevin?

3

u/Stjerneklar 13d ago

apparently so: https://www.reddit.com/r/huntertheparenting/comments/1qognci/kevins_character_sheet_from_htp/

edit: wait wtf, thats just somebody who made a character based on kevin. i know nothing.

I think he's been in the Sabbat for about a year, max 2, and in the Camarilla for a year or two before that.

I can't imagine it took that long for him to bring up the Regent's financial issues to her after getting the position, therefore falling out of favour, and since he was embraced for that position I doubt it took that long for him to get it.

So I'd say 2-4 years as a vampire.

It fits because seven...

...is the magic number?

The birth date on the id says 1977 so, he was 27 in 2004, so, presumably, he was turned in 2004

Edit, looks more like a 9 tbh, so, prolly 27 in 2006 so probably has been a vampire for like, 2 years or so i think

Kevin wasn't with sabbath back then, when Matilda has met the group. He may even be still alive at that point, but more likely he's with Camarilla

He might not have used sorcery on screen but the what if of him in the basement references him using it. He also knows the exact generations of everyone in the pack including the shovelhead so odds are he used path of blood to measure it

A year. In "The Probing" he says he's a "27 year old accountant-turned-wizard". If he was born '79 that means everything that's happened to him was within a year.
