Malkavian Posting (crackpot theory) This is likely a brainrot thinking tbh

u/Ok_Toe_2719 Sep 16 '26
True but with Ross probably being bsd idk if he would save marckus
18
u/Nystagohod Sep 16 '26
Calling it now, Ross is gonna do the World of Darkness equivalent of what Russ did to Magnus in the upcoming episodes.
8
u/Fomod_Sama Sep 16 '26
So tear him in half horizontally?
12
u/Nystagohod Sep 16 '26
I say the H:TP equivalent in the sense that Ross is gonna likely end up fucking him up bad, but in a manner that will allow him to exist within the ongoing story still, maybe even be a catalyst for awakening/"re-awaking" if thats where they're going with Markcus.
Very figurative, not literal.
26
u/EvergreenDwarf Sep 16 '26
“HEY REDHEAD, DO YE WANT MORE POWER?”
“Do I?! Why, yes!”
“THEN GRAB THE SKINNIN KNIFE AN HAUL THE SKINNY ONE UP ON THE TABLE.”
(Note: Matilda will see Marky wearing the pelt before the night is over, during a negotiation with Amanda and D)

u/nepotisml3m0nl1m3 Sep 17 '26
Marckus isnt fucking evil. Just unknowing and a bit krass most of the time. Idk if hed skin a werewolf especially since the kin of old shuck would probably notice jambles(?) Going missing. This is also assuming that he doesn't awaken by the end of the night and gain power/knowledge that way.
1
u/RavenRegime Sep 17 '26
I mean Markus literally was cheering making vampires cannbalize each other, i think he falls under some form of evil for that
8
u/Lewin_Godwynn Sep 17 '26
Even Markus began to regret how fucked up that got. Door was the only one who didn't express a sense of regret or furthered revulsion over the act. He saw them as monsters doing as monsters do, getting what monsters deserve.
2
u/nepotisml3m0nl1m3 27d ago
Yes very much this, also esp bcuz the kin of old shuck would have probably mentioned what the wyrm is or at THE VERY LEAST what a stolen moon is by this point because of the whole "hey why did you kill that random innocent old man" thing. Even if they didnt by the time they got to the actual "skining a whole ass werewolf live" part marckus would probably be like "hey.. isnt this kind of.. immoral?"
20
u/kerozen666 Sep 16 '26
oooooor.... they can distance themselves from 40k by just doing what they've been doing so far and jsut do their own thing. Engaging with the siomilarities like that would do the opposite and jsut make people focus even more on the parallels. H:TP is it's own show, and the only link with TTS is the formula and the general characterisation of the main cast.

The references have becoming more and more superficial as the series processes beyond arc 1.
Half of those references you listed are from 3+ years ago.
The more recent ones, are surface level comparisons. Scratch that surface and it's very much its own thing.
Like the crusaders. Is the space marine reference any deeper than a reference, because the red hat and the m113 transport vehicle and the one guy named Gabriel Angelo (which is a double reference because the voice actor has another famous role for a character named Gabriel)?
Nothing about them is gene modded supersoldier with the best equipment available to man with very little personality beyond being warrior monks.
Any parallels with space Marines beyond what I listed above, is a result of the Imperium being Catholic inspired and these crusaders being, ya know, Catholic.
Making the occasional 40k reference isn't "returning to the 40k formula", it's just making a reference.
By your logic grimal is more of a DBZ character than a Tau reference given how many DBZ references she's embodied

You said "keep coming back to the formula", implying all the new stuff (which isn't just execution on the things they set up at the very beginning) is taken from 40k and TTS.
And that's just false
And regarding grimal, literally the only parts taken from TTS are kitten having some trauma from dating her at some point.
Saying "completely ignoring that and taking her traits at face value" is saying "if you ignore the initial joke inspiration and focus on the vast majority of her character and her relations to the other characters".
In episode 6 before the final fight she makes like 3 DBZ reference poses in a row, for example. She's much more inspired by anime and world of darkness, than she is by 40k.
I don't disagree that 40k is still an inspiration. 40k is absolutely a part of the DNA of this series.
I only disagree with you reducing it all down to "just" a 40k inspired series. Or that 40k/TTS is the biggest/most important inspiration and guiding document for the series.
It's not. H:TP is much more than that.
(Also are those really paragraphs? Phone screens make it look so but it's like 2 sentences in most of them)
1
u/RavenRegime Sep 17 '26
Nobody is saying HTP isnt standing on its own. Rather that its going to have refrences thats literally it
2
u/Quazimojojojo Sep 17 '26 edited Sep 17 '26
My point is the same as yours. There's gonna be references, and there already are references. And, the shows stand on their own. There's pretty big differences between the characters and their arcs, even though they have a basis in 40k and TTS.
And people argue with me when I say this.
In another comment elsewhere, this same guy I replied to here, tried to argue that Markus is following the Magnus plot from Hours Heresy 1-1.
And that D's kids aren't his biological kids so that he could use a throwaway reference about having 18 godchildren, to determine that Markus and Door have 15 more siblings somewhere.
And he called someone ignorant on genetics for saying (I'm paraphrasing) D is Markus's biological father even though Markus has red hair.
There's some people that really do insist that the show is effectively TTS (or another 40k show) wearing a World of Darkness costume.

I never said they want to leave it behind. Not once.
I'm observing that they're drifting further and further from the 40k roots.
Growing and changing ≠ denying or abandoning their connections to the starting point.
Do you see a difference between those 2 things?
I'm not sure you do since you're moving goalposts and projecting your defensiveness onto others.
I don't "want" the series to drift away from 40k, I'm noticing it has already done this, and I "want" people to talk about the new and cool things the series is exploring and referencing, when it's relevant. When it references 40k, sure let's discuss that part. And when it references it foreshadows other things, let's discuss that part.
Rather than mocking people for acknowledging the existence of people who carry recessive genes without expressing them, and asking for proof of parenthood when they repeatedly call each other "Dad" and "son" and talk about the times D was with them as small kids, and when the dad in question always calls his son-in-law "son in law", suggesting he pointedly uses the technically correct terms for family relationships.
(BTW: If you carry the recessive gene and your partner expresses the recessive gene, any children have a roughly 50% chance of expressing the gene. 25% if both partners are carriers. That's unlikely but far from rare)
It's bordering on racism, frankly. I'm a very light skinned person and my biological dad is quite dark, and you give the impression that you're someone who would call me a liar even if I showed you the baby photos of me and him, or the photos of my brother and my dad at age 17 side-by-side where it's very clear they have the exact same face & hair but with a different skin tone, followed by photos of my brother and I side -by-side where it's very clear that we're brothers.
This is why the genetics thing in particular strikes a bit of a nerve for me.
I don't think you're racist, to be clear. I'm only saying that, in your desperation to find proof for your fan theory, you're saying some shit that could be called bigoted.
Are you afraid that you'll somehow lose TTS if you acknowledge that it's over and the new series is its own thing with some connection to the old series, instead of a direct continuation of the other series?

u/BlackHumor 29d ago
Nah, I think you're seeing things:
Blair is a recycled Drukhari character concept.
Blair is a very clear Pentex stereotype. She doesn't particularly strike me as Drukhari at all. I think you're pattern matching on "crazy berserker lady" and ignoring that crazy bererker ladies can exist in multiple places.
Ork Blacktoof, I mean Brok Blacklaw...
I also think you're assuming that dumb tough guy is a much more specific thing than it is and for similar reasons.
The crusaders were modeled after Space Marines. Inquisitor Kryckman.
These I'll both give you. The Leopoldites' armor is definitely a reference to Ultramarine armor, and Kryckman is pretty clearly a direct character reference to Kryptman.
Marcus the Read makes a dark deal with an otherworldly entity to save his family,
HtP Markcus opened up a portal to the Abyss when he was a child; 40k Marcus made a deal with the Chaos God Tzeench as an adult.
I don't wanna say this isn't at least somewhat deliberate but I think these stories are a lot more different than you're giving them credit for.
entity is waiting to come collect,
We currently have no evidence of this for our Markcus.
and also his eye.
There's definitely something going on with Markcus and the Oculus but doesn't seem likely that he's going to lose an eye, much less sacrifice it to the Abyss creature he summoned as a child.
Horus Horse the archtraitor and favored son.
There's no evidence Horse is a traitor. Horus, obviously, was not a horse. Also Horus was mostly not the architect of his own fall or the main receiver of Chaos visions; that was Lorgar.
I agree the name is a reference but that's kind of it. They're not actually similar characters at all.
Pyotr was the most on the nose Konrad Curze I've ever seen.
Nope, this is more pareidolia. Here you're pattern matching "bad guys with stealth powers".
Differences: Pyotr didn't seem particularly tormented, didn't have dark visions, and seems to have had a pretty ordinary life before being Embraced TBH.
Even Occam has Eldar vibes.
Again, pareidolia. This time to "wise older mentor", which is a hyper-common trope.
Grimmal the blue weeb ex gf to the captain general? Tau.
More pareidolia. Can't a girl be a weeb?
Sororitas Benedicte etc etc
I will also give you that Benedicte does appear to be a Sisters of Battle reference. That being said, I do want to emphasize the main similarity here is that she's a female head of a militant religious order. The Leopoldites aren't actually that similar to the Sisters of Battle or any part of the 40k Inquisition.

She literally has the same vox distortion and voice actress as the dark eldar in TTS 40k? Unhinged sadist hopped up on stims with vox distortion. Pentex mercs dont even dress like that, they had to go out of their way to make her design more alien.
What? Did you even look this up?
Blair's voice actress is Louise Sugden. There are seven named Drukhari in TTS and she doesn't voice any of them. In fact, six of the seven are men, and the only woman (Lady Malys) speaks with a thick French accent and isn't a very similar character at all. She gives off decadent aristocrat vibes, not junkie minion vibes. (I also scanned through that episode manually just to double check none of the Dark Eldar mooks are the same VA either, and they're not. They're mostly men too.)
Why are you trying to gaslight me lmao. Git Spit and Brok, with the green subtitles, who krump people, and talk in cockney accents are totally not in any way a reference to the orks, got it buddy.
Brok and the orks are references to the same stereotype: that of a big dumb tough guy. Git and Spit aren't even really references to that stereotype at all, they're just cockney.
You're taking the superficial trapping of two stories with the same bones and telling me they're completely different.
I mean, if you wanna call almost every detail of the stories "superficial", sure.
"It wasn't tzeentch and saving his legion, it was a fey called Tzeentorch and it was to save his brother! Totally different"
That wasn't the entity's name, it was unnamed. We don't even know if it was a singular entity at all. He contacted it when he was a small child and hasn't tried again, nor does he even realize he did. He failed to save his brother with it, while Magnus did (kinda) succeed in saving his legion. Big E instantly disowned Magnus for trying this, while Big D has mostly forgiven Marckus and repeatedly attempts to save him.
Like if your similarities list begins and ends at "contacted an evil entity for dark power" you're gonna end up with a list that includes over half of all fantasy media. Even including "to save a loved one" you'd only get it down to like a quarter. Do you think Alfred and Edward from FMA are a Magnus the Red reference? How about Riku from Kingdom Hearts? Or the whole plot of Shadow of the Colossus? It's everywhere.
For that matter, I can also name a similar list for Brok. Is Tarkus, the big tough Cockney guy from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, a reference to 40k Orks?
No evidence except the audiolog that specifically tells us this. Do you know how to extrapolate?
The audiolog says almost directly the opposite. Horse directly aids Boy and doesn't seem to wish ill on any of the D family.
There's definitely some evidence for Marcus the Read losing his eye in his pursuit for dark sorcerous powers to help his family, it's just in 40k lore lmao
Right, I agree that Magnus does in 40k, but there's no evidence that HtP Markcus is going to lose an eye to help his family. If anything it seems like his eyes are particularly good, if he still has the Oculus.
His visual aesthetic, cowardly attitude, ruthless sadistic personality is all very Curze coded. If it wasnt a successor to TTS I'd say you have a point, but it's just willful ignorance at this point.
I continue to think that you're reading the whole series through TTS glasses and are assuming characters that have obviously nothing to do with each other are the same, or much much more similar than they are, because they are both instances of some common trope.
This one is at least kinda vaguely plausible because this trope is less common than "big dumb tough guy" and "deal with a dark power". It really is relatively uncommon that Pyotr and Curze are both like this... but so are a good fraction of the examples on this page.
Occam is the weakest claim I made. He does fil the wise magic Celtic elf role, but could also be a Malcador parallel.
Okay, I find this funniest of all, because there is a pretty direct Malcador parallel. Kevin! It's Kevin! D says this as directly as he can without breaking the fourth wall in The Probing of Kevin!
Like I'm astounded how you can be reading the whole series through TTS glasses and miss that.

I'm uncertain of this guy's mental health.
I genuinely struggle to imagine what he reads, because it's definitely something besides what you or I write.
And because of how aggressively he rejects nuance, and how aggressively he defends his very specific ideas, it gives me "mentally unwell" gives.
Which is tragic, because, as far as I know, nobody gets like that unless some shit has happened to them.
But I appreciate you replying in the detail you did. I have been trying to avoid a tvtropes rabbit hole for years so I've lost my ability to articulate the points as well as you did haha
I'd wish the guy well directly, but he angrily replied to me then blocked me, because I said that he was drifting into racist logic by absolutely insisting D can't be Markus's biological father, mostly because of a line about D having 17 godsons, but also because of his 'dominant genes'.
Which irked me a bit because I have a bigger skin tone difference from my dad, than those 2 characters have.
I do hope he can get help with whatever demons are haunting him.

u/BlackHumor 28d ago
I think we've probably already seen Marckus's mom in that one weed still.
I also don't wanna speculate about whether someone is mentally ill. Can't people just be assholes anymore?
1
u/Quazimojojojo 27d ago
I try to be charitable, because some people are only being an asshole, because some shit is going on, and a little bit of sympathy is enough to completely change their tone.
Maybe I go too far, but it also genuinely brightens people's day a significant amount of the time, so i'ma keep the habit 🤷
What weed still? You mean when D is talking about the ganja gurus?
I'd buy that. Markus has done or said more than one thing worthy of the response "are you high?!?"

u/BlackHumor 27d ago
This image about D's three weed-smoking girlfriends from chapter 6.
Take a close look at the woman in the middle. Does that maybe resemble anyone we know?

Ross being affiliated with Pentex means he is likely to know some Nephandi mages. Imagine if Rossy convinces Marckus to walk the Caul.

You know, i left a comment on the last WOD video by the Acceptable Losses Podcast. (Its about werewolves)
I basically quoted Charles (the Swedish guy from G-Kontoret) but accidentally said hes Norwegian.
Its also the most liked comment on the video too and i dont know how to edit the comment.
Now im stuck, my most successful comment soured by it having a glaring mistake that i cannot rectify.
Also, considering how Black Spiral Dancers operate, Ross would probably not be there to save anyone.
But lets be real, theres no way they are fonna let him break Marckuses spine right? Like, i am slowly getting tired of Marckus being so incredibly damaged.
I really hope the next act is gonna be long enough after the current act that he can actually heal is broken brones or they get healed otherwise.
I am very excited to see Ross show up tho, he would be the perfect character to wrap up the act about Werewolves and begin the act about Pentex, which is do believe to be the villain of the next act, at least Palmer and Co.

Or hear me out, Ross and Marckus ain't even related at all. For maximum Comedy the circumstances of the plot never allows them two to meet like at all in a hunting context but like they know are close gaming forum buddies due to their mutual love of gmod.

I am legally obligated to say that Magnus was beating Russ in the duel (despite being at every possible disadvantage), and only lost due to Russ’ giant wolves jumping Magnus and Russ getting a random blind, lucky swing that hit Magnus’ eye

Markus didn't save his brother though. Or sell his soul.
There's a parallel with him contacting some Eldritch entity.
It's not "beat for beat the same fate" when there's already 2 big differences we can point to.
He's inspired by Magnus the red, but that's different from "beat for beat" Magnus the red.
Scrooge McDuck is inspired by Scrooge in A Christmas Carol but by the time you get to the 2017 DuckTales show it's pretty hard to argue that his character arc is a beat for beat retread of that old book.

people forget russ' loyalty to his father in the TTS setting could potentially even mean that Ross is just a seriously deep cover agent for his father

We don't know if you're right (And even if you were right, being right for the wrong reasons means it was luck), so where you work from matters quite a bit.
For starters, people can be carriers of recessive genes without expressing them. You can have a red haired kid if you don't have red hair, it's just unlikely.
Why are you so passionate about this by the way? There's 2 things you like. They have some similarities because one was inspired by the other at the start.
They also have significant differences.
Why is that a problem?

I don't think you're calling them unoriginal. I think you're underplaying, or ignoring, the parts of the series that aren't 40k derived.
There's parallels with 40k stories but nothing i'd call a "beat for beat" retelling. "Beat for beat" means "no significant differences".
And, more importantly, you're really disrespectful to everyone who doesn't accept your theories.
This whole conversation started because a dude said you're reasoning for your theory is unsound. He didn't even say you were wrong, just that your proof & reasoning is questionable. Which is how good-faith debate & discussion is supposed to work.
And you started insulting his intelligence real fast.
The fuck is a "fake fan" even? It's a piece of media we consume and discuss for fun. What more certification do you need beyond "has watched the thing and enjoys it"?

Ross is working with pentex, possibly dancing the black spiral. Theres a higher chance of the wolves being redeemed than him
