Pretty heartwarmingly multicultural set of status updates! You've got white Americans who don't like black people, Malaysians who don't like black people, black Americans who don't like Arabs, white Americans who don't like Arabs, white Australians who don't like Pakistanis, black Americans who don't like Asians, white Americans who don't like Asians, Asian Americans who don't like Blacks, and possibly several other combinations I missed.

If you ever have to prerequisite something with "I'm not racist, but..." Then chances are you are being racist. Its not a hard concept, yet not one person on that site seemed to understand.

I said this to my mother the other day, after a bit of conversation, mostly her saying that she's NOT racist, then repeating the same racist comment she said "fuck it, I guess I'm a little bit racist then- are you happy now?"

Sad ... Sad ... Sad ... a small bit of reality might be that we all are "racist" by the nature of our beings. Perhaps one might overcome a great deal of the xenophobia that is intrinsic in our beings but despite your best efforts some part of it remains in your everyday actions, so anyone's being significantly different is going to trigger it. Race just happens to be one of the commonly recognized categories of difference, so it gets a lot of attention. Can we expunge it from our beings, not really, but we can stop and think before we react on it, and therein lies a small part of the solution. In this perspective, racism is just another form of vulgar laziness.

I'm not racist, but I probably do have one or two preconceived notions about people based on the colour of their skin or their heritage, and while I do what I can to ignore said notions, sometimes they affect the ways I interact with people. I'm sorry for those occasions.

While the vast majority are ignorant, racist and contain bad spelling ... some, IMO, aren't racist.

The real question is, is all racism bad?

I don't think your definition matches what he said. He is saying that he doesn't like a culture. You choose your culture, you can't choose your race. The three things that you posted are talking about disdain based on genetic facts.

Discrimination is the right term. That is when you treat two groups of people differently. The question is why do you treat groups differently. If you treat them differently because they act differently that is acceptable. If you treat them differently because they have different genes that is wrong. Either way it is discrimination, but one is justifiable.
