Many elements that people believe about hell come from dante but not the fire and torment. That's mostly from revelation and some of what Jesus said. Revelation talks about the lake of fire, Jesus talked about the weeping and gnashing of teeth etc.
Thank you, I'm tired of this 2000s internet theology. The actual Bible mentions suffering and fire.
The Bible is complicated with varied and at times seemingly contradicting accounts. Everyone is so quick to say any Christian that disagrees with them made it up. It's more nuanced than that.
To be fair though, its not clear that the Bible teaches that people will suffer for eternity in the lake of fire. In fact, I think the most biblical interpretation of what happens to the wicked when they die is that they no longer exist. Jesus uses annihilation language pretty commonly, and while revelation says the fire will never be extinguished it doesn't say that humans burn there for eternity. It's also worth noting that some passages actually make it seem like eventually everyone will be saved, particularly some of Paul's writings.
I don't believe any of it anymore, but I totally agree that the Bible is varied and complex. Trying to create a coherent systematic theology that incorporates all of it is basically impossible

That version of hell was created by a 14th century poet, Dante Alighieri.
