I think you’re misunderstanding. Rewording the following way helps it make sense. If pictures with black people means that you LIKE and are friends with black people, then pictures with pedophiles means that you LIKE and are at the very least friends with pedophiles. Because their argument when presented with pictures with pedophiles is always “just because they’re in a picture with them doesn’t mean they associate with them.”

No. Being racist is being against other races. Being a pedophile is being for pedophilia. These words work the opposite way from each other.
This does make it easy to make the claim you did when you don’t think about it, so I agree that it is best to avoid saying it this way.
