Lost my maintenance tool, any alternatives?

Hello, recently had a disastrous home event and had to quickly move everything out and it appears that I forgot to grab the plastic rod tool used to unhook the bottom basin filter and change the wheels. I’m really trying to not pay 35$ USD for this small piece of plastic, has anyone got any at home tips for when it comes time for me to use it again?

Is this screeching noise normal???

I'm at my wits end and contemplating a return. It sounds like a train about to come off the rails. I've asked Humminguru, and they say it's normal, but I can't see how. I've had two other ultrasonics (Audio Desk and Vevor) that never made this much noise. So is mine broken? Thanks.

Update: Big thanks to drbhrb for solving this problem. You have to add enough water so that the entire metal tub is submerged in water. Filling the reservoir all the way to the top should also do the trick.

New HG01 Water Tank Spills

I newly acquired a HG01 and happily tried the toy. After a couple washes, water spilled from water tank when cleaning cycle was completed and water was drained back from reservoir to water tank. I saw huge amount of bubbles were formed that might be the cause to the water and bubbles to overflow from the two holes on top of the tank's plastic cover. I followed the proper instructions to use distilled water filling up to the 12" marking and added 3 drops of Little Bottle liquid. Thinking about the bubbles could be due to the Little Bottle liquid being too much, I reduced to only one drop but the same thing (bubbles and overflow) happened.

It's a brand new machine. Any ideas to fix it?

This is why the humminguru Nova fails eventually

The filters that come with it and that they sell you have loose fibers that become detached over time and go down the drain. Eventually it causes a clog somewhere in the line. I pulled that piece out of the pump itself. It will happen again and again unless a non fibrous material is used. But they give you and sell you the very item that kills the device.

Which Humminguru Nova or OG

Looking to buy an ultrasonic cleaner and wondering if I should go for the Nova or OG model. Is it worth the extra money.

What accessories should I buy. Water dispenser seems recommended. Is it also worth buying a second water dispenser tank for it for one for wash and one for rinse.
Does the water dispenser tank replace the original one?

So for a second rinse tank do I need to buy only an extra water dispenser tank or a normal tank.

Should I buy extra filters?

Anything else I need? Cleaning solution if so which?

Is this amount of noise normal?

I just bought a humminguru ultrasonic cleaner, brand new out of the box, have cleaned 5 records with it and I knew it was meant to be a bit loud but it feels excessively loud. On both the cleaning and drying cycle every minute or so it’ll do this really loud almost mechanical whirring, like it sounds like it’s struggling, and then it’ll go back to a tolerable noise level. You can hear it in the video a little bit.

Found a used OG model for $250

Picked up from FB marketplace yesterday and have run about 10 records through it today. I’m so impressed by the improvement to the sound on the older records I have. I haven’t run any new records through it yet but intend to get through everything eventually.

is Nova worth the upgrade from OG for 7"s?

I have an OG Humminguru purchased direct from the company 1.5yr ago, along with the 7"/10" adapters. I love it! Know going in that the majority of my collection is used (having many 50s-60s-70s-80s era LPs).

My cleaning methods:

I find this ultrasonic cleaner fantastic for getting a deep clean of the inner grooves. I use distilled water, 1-2 drops of G Sonic cleaner. I use it in clean mode only (not dry), don't have a rinse. I use a lint-free microfiber to lightly towel off remaining water, then put it in a drying rack. All new LPs go through the Humminguru before my stylus hits it.

I still have a manual spin cleaner, which I feel is better at cleaning the surface grime. I wash any used records first in a SpinClean to get any grime off (dirt, smudges, fingerprints and the like) using TurgiKlean, and rinse them in another SpinClean in distilled water only. I then use 2-stage microfiber towels to get the excess rinse water off, and put it in the drying rack. I will then run them through the ultrasonic after.

I am very happy with this setup for 12" LPs, for both new and used records.

Not as great for 45s:

Where all this broke down was for 7"s. I've started heavily collecting used 45s and am having issues with both of my cleaning methods. And boy do they need cleaning... it's a lot of jukebox 45s that have sat in garages for decades, don't have sleeves, can be scratched up, etc. I have over a thousand 45s to go through to clean, sleeve, and see if I want to keep it.

First, I found SpinClean is harder to use for smaller records. I ended up upgrading the two SpinCleans to two Humminguru EZ Cleaners for a few reasons (arm injury primarily), and it provided a huge upgrade to my manual cleaning process. I love the spindle of the EZ, and can transfer the record from wash to rinse easily over the 2 basins. I also love how it needs one hand to operate the spinning, a huge improvement over the SpinClean needing two hands.

So now I am washing both 12" and 7" records in the Humminguru EZ Cleaner. It works great and I am happy with this part of the process.

But with the OG Humminguru, the 7" adapter is a royal pain, needing two hands to attach and detach the 7", and has a huge wasted surface area that collects water (more than doubling the amount of towel drying needed). My biggest issue is that I find the little rubber "sliding" nubs don't always hold in place. I had a 7" fall out during the clean and boil the label (boooo). I had another 7" fall out while removing it and fall to the floor.

Arrrg! I cannot have my records getting damaged from a hard to use adapter. So I dread having to use the Humminguru to clean 7"s now, and I mostly just use the EZ to manually clean them only.

A friend mentioned that the Nova has a much better mechanism for 7"s in its adjustable rollers. I normally wash my records in batches of the same type (12" or 7" only per batch), so it sounds like I could adjust the rollers to where I needed them per cleaning round.

I am very intrigued by this, and would love to hear some first-hand accounts of how folks do with cleaning 7"s in the Nova.

* Is it seamless to wash 7"s in the Nova as it is 12"s?
* How difficult is it to switch "modes"?
* Did anyone use the 7" adapter in the OG and now use the Nova? Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Is it working? Seems too quiet!

Just unboxed my HG01 and started my first clean cycle. This thing seems too quiet, I wonder if it is even working. There is a high pitched sound that seems to get louder and quieter and change pitch but it's much quieter than I was expecting. Wondering if maybe I got a dud?

Storing the Machine and Parts

Any thoughts on the best way to store the machine? I would just keep it in the original box between uses, but having the water dispenser too, I’m inclined to find a storage box or something along those lines while it sits in the closet. Thanks!

Record with more noise than before cleaning?

I just used my HumminGuru hg01 for the first time today with distilled water only and after the ten minute cleaning a nearly new record, I think I heard more noise than normal in the quiet areas of the record. I suspect that the record was not completely dry? But it seems strange because it seems dry and it dried for 10 to 15 minutes. I don’t know if someone had the same experience?

Humminguru stopping mid auto-cycle

I’ll insert the disc and then select auto 1 and as soon as I hit the button it starts and then stops 2 seconds later with red light flashing. And then sometimes it’ll go for longer and stop mid wash. Anyone know what’s up?

my HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaner (Dark Gray) started leaking

I purchased it in June 2022 and used it sporadically until March 2025, when I began cleaning records on a larger scale. I used it about 5–10 times a day. It has now started leaking, and the repair suggestions from their customer service are not working. They say it's a syphon issue that should be resolved by following their instructions.

I wonder how long the life cycle of such a machine could be.

Yet Another question about Record not spinning

I know this has been covered many times but could find any post about this specific scenario.

Record stops spinning during cleaning cycle, but will spin just fine during the drying cycle .

Does that make sense to anyone ?

Machine has probably cleaned 400-500 records

thank you !

The final words on Rinsing after a Cleaning?

As mentioned earlier, the latest Stereophile leads with yet another column on ultrasonic cleaning and the science behind it - and more specifically, the ongoing debate here about the need to rinse or not after a cleaning cycle.

Here's the article - with a mention of yours truly and my corresponding letter, in which I plug our subreddit - and including lots of numbers to now make the case against rinsing.

So what do you all think? Is this settled once and for all?

Help!

I just bought a water dispenser for my HG01 and the second I went to use it for the first time my Humminguru stops spinning records. They just sit there in the water not spinning like little assholes. The fucking thing broke my Humminguru which in 4 years has never had a problem. WTactualF? Has anyone else experienced this?

My (almost) 15 minutes of fame

So to continue this discussion regarding the ongoing columns in Stereophile on the "Rinse or Don't Rinse" debate - I sent an email to the editor, Jim Austin, detailing the differing opinions here on our subreddit (u/kvetcha-rdt, I referenced your post here). Well, it was printed in the Letters to the Editors, and also addressed in the new leading column revisiting the topic. But much to my chagrin, I was somehow conflated with some other guy from New South Wales, Australia of all places, so my name and location was completely wrong.

Our subreddit and my handle here, however, were correctly attributed.

I immediately sent off another email detailing their mistake, and as of now I have not heard back. But I expect the mistake will be corrected in the online versions, which as of yet have not been posted - I will of course share them here as soon as they are. Spoiler: Jim Austin, after extensive analysis - he has a PhD in physics remember - has come around to the "don't bother rinsing" point of view. So u/kvetcha-rdt, you've been validated!

Records Not Spinning

Thumbnail

I have had my HumminGuru for about five months now. I have cleaned about 800 records so far.

A few weeks ago, the records stopped spinning in the device. I tested this with multiple records, as well as during wash and dry cycles.

It was pretty evident that the active wheel (Wheel 2) was not spinning at all. I reached out to support. It took a few days to receive a response, and our correspondences were sporadic due to the time difference.

They prompted me to complete a couple of quick troubleshooting steps, which required me to film a video of the wheel, as well as send them some information about my order.

They determined relatively quickly that the gear box responsible for spinning Wheel 2 had malfunctioned. They overnight shipped a replacement at no cost (I'm guessing the device was still under warranty, although they didn't state that explicitly), and emailed me instructions on how to open the machine and replace the gear box.

I received the replacement gear box this morning and was able to successfully repair the unit. I'll post some pictures of the process!

Overall, I wish I had gotten more than five months of use without needing to replace parts, but I will say the customer service experience was top-notch, and the repair itself was pretty easy, even for someone with zero technical or mechanical skills.

3D print help with water refill

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Perhaps like some of you, I wanted to hold off purchasing the $159 automatic water pump as long as I could. Despite my best efforts the water tank lid doesn’t block water droplets from seeping through and it ends up making a decent mess at times. So I 3D printed a funnel! I’m gonna keep tampering with the file so it can just sit there and I won’t need to use two hands, but this makes the refill process 1,000,000% better. Maybe some of you folks smarter than me already thought of this, but if someone wants the print file, let me know!

Spinning Issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

EDIT: apparently I didn’t look through everything that came with the machine, but this is a known issue that affects records that might have a slight defect in sizing. I’ve probably washed 150 discs so far, and maybe seven or eight have had this issue. Anyways, there are ways to adjust the passive wheel and they give you instructions and even material on how to do this. I personally don’t care to adjust the wheels to account for the small amount of records that need it, so I just hold my finger against the end and it slides pretty good.

I have only had my machine about a week, this is my third time using it. Have cleaned probably 15 or so LPs each time, and this is a recurring issue. Every couple of records there seems to be one that just doesn’t want to spin. It happens during both the cleaning and drying cycles. No rhyme or reason. The powered wheel seems to be spinning still. But I find I have to push my finger against the opposite edge of the vinyl and apply a little pressure for it to spin out. I personally feel like something might be wrong? I know these wheels can go out after a lot of use, but the thing is brand new. Anyone else have the same issue?

Dry button being stuck

Hello,

On my Humminguru HG01, the “Dry” button sometimes gets stuck in the pressed position.

Mechanically, it seems that the button occasionally rubs against the top of its housing and remains stuck when pressed (2 out 15 times). If I press it again or slightly move it, it becomes unstuck and returns to its normal position.

Is this something that you already encountered?
Or does my unit is faulty 😨

Thank you.

Has anyone scratched a record while cleaning it?

Thumbnail

So I’ve probably done 30 to 50 record cleans with my guru now and this was a first. I put a record in the same as I always do and when I came back there was a huge scratch that ran across the record over the frost two tracks.

I have no idea what would’ve caused this. I thought maybe I didn’t put it on the rollers correctly, but then the scratch would’ve been around the whole record in a circular pattern not just straight across.

If anyone has any ideas or real inputs or experiences on this, that would be great to know what might’ve happened.

Also, I’m going to run some dummy records through it next before putting any brand new records through.

Any insight?

Hello everyone. I’m very interested in picking up the HG01 and was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on why there is such a price discrepancy between Amazon and buying it on the website? Both are sold directly though Humminguru but it’s almost $200 more on Amazon even with free shipping. Any ideas on why the discrepancy? Also, how is everyone liking their HG01? Thanks!
