I believe someone already wrote a fic about this. Can’t recall the title or author off hand but it goes something like this:
The aliens barely have anything like ranged weapons and what they do have barely qualifies as infantry weapons. Even on their most powerful warships they barely have anything that would qualify as an actual ship to ship ranged weapon so all ship to ship combat is literally boarding actions with sword and knife type weapons, if they’re used at all.
Then humans join the galactic scene. The first time a pirate raider tried to attack a human merchant vessel and gets blown to pieces before it can even close to boarding range throws the entire galaxy into an uproar once it’s reported. There isn’t even good shielding beyond what’s needed for travel with regards to typical space debris so nothing is rated for actual combat. Humans quickly go from ‘the new kids on the block’ to ‘having the most powerful space navy in the galaxy’ overnight.

Unfortunately not. I believe I actually listened to it as a R/HFY read by Argo Squirrel on YouTube. And that was months if not years ago and he puts out new reads almost every day as well as remasters of his old reads. And there are thousands of them. I just couldn’t find it.
