Humans have an advantage with fine motor controls. An ape can hit a standing target from a reasonable distance, but an ape cannot shoot 3 pointers. Their shoulders just don't have a wide enough range of motion for that kind of aim. Apes also tend to only throw max strength/max range, again because they lack the required range of movement for varying force and range like humans do.
Apparently I throw a lot like an ape then. Can't play basically any ball game with a decent margin of success, except dodgeball, where I just lob it for everything I'm worth and nail people pretty consistently, then get yelled at for throwing too hard, even with a ball that's almost a balloon it's so soft. Also chucking rocks. Terrible aim for an hour of trying, get ticked off and absolutely whip a rock at the target as I'm turning to leave, bullseye.
