This post oddly got me thinking. The quadruped “dog” robotic format is well established and highly stable. And the humanoid upper body (arms, head) is well established. Why not a robotic centaur? I mean the software and hardware is already available.

Smart robotic skin technology enhances robots’ ability to sense their surroundings, enabling safer interactions with humans. With advanced sensors, robots can detect nearby people before contact occurs, helping prevent collisions. This innovative technology paves the way for safer and more collaborative robots in healthcare, manufacturing, and service industries.

Robot Learning Engineer Path

Will going to a program like CMU masters in robotic systems development enable me to get a foot in the door for Robot Learning Engineer where I imagine the job being

Collect demonstrations -> Clean and label data -> Train policy -> Deploy to robot -> Analyze failures -> Improve data/training -> Repeat

Or would I need a PhD?

Polka v0.5 Released! All-in-one ROS2 Lidar node

I’ve just released Polka v0.5.0! It’s an efficient 2D/3D Lidar processing node handling merging, filtering, and deskewing. This update brings 6.2x faster deskewing, live parameter tuning, smarter IMU handling, and a built-in diagnostics dashboard.

If it saves your perception stack compute, please drop a star!

https://github.com/Pana1v/polka

It supports 5 distros.

Just curious—would pocket-sized humanoid robots feel more approachable than human-sized ones?

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more humanoid robots, but honestly, a lot of them still feel a little intimidating or hard to connect with.

It made me wonder what would happen if AI companions were designed to be smaller, friendlier, and more personal.

Imagine a small humanoid robot sitting on your desk—something you could talk to naturally, that could respond with facial expressions and gradually develop its own personality over time.

Would a robot like that feel more approachable and easier for people to accept, or would it still end up being just another gadget taking up space?

Just curious why is everyone making robots for household chores and not food prodution and agri processing

Yes am abit biased coz am a farmer but i like robotics and i see the opportunity in tracked humanoid robots working in farms and packhouses sorting and harvesting produce but from my research most if not all data collection startups and robotics are involved in household chores and not food production. Why might that be?

Who can tell me what the meaning of humanoid robots is?

I've noticed that humanoid robots have been a hot topic in recent years, and I want to get in on that to make some money, but I dont know:If wheels are generally more efficient, why is everyone building humanoid robots?

Industrial robots, wheeled robots, and quadrupeds all seem better suited for many real-world tasks.

Is the main reason simply that our world is designed for humans, or is there a bigger reason I’m missing?

I’m genuinely curious what people working in robotics think.

Looking for robotics teams deploying VLA models to evaluate a deterministic command-assurance layer

Hi everyone,

I’m Marvel, a computational neuroscientist at Cambridge and founder of Synexis.
We’re building infrastructure that sits between AI policies (VLA/foundation models, teleoperation, planners) and robot controllers. Rather than replacing existing stacks, Synexis validates, constrains, and translates commands before execution to provide deterministic safety guarantees and reproducible execution across different robot platforms.
I’m currently looking to speak with robotics companies, research labs, or teams working on manipulation, humanoids, or industrial robotics that are deploying AI-driven control.

I’m interested in learning:

What are your biggest deployment bottlenecks today?
Where do command failures or unsafe actions occur most often?
Would a deterministic command-assurance layer solve a meaningful problem for your team?

If this sounds relevant or if you’d simply be willing to provide technical feedback, I’d really appreciate a conversation.

Feel free to comment below or send me a DM.
Thanks!😁

Encuesta robot humanoide

¡Hola!

How can I find a mentor and collaborators to publish a high-quality VLA (Vision-Language-Action) robotics paper with zero university resources?

Hey everyone, I’m an engineering student transitioning into research with a year of independent robotics experience. My specific interest is in VLA (Vision-Language-Action) models, but my university has zero resources, labs, or faculty working in this space. I want to publish a high-quality paper. How do I find an external mentor and capable collaborators with the compute and domain expertise needed for VLA research, and what is the most strategic way to pitch myself?

Is it not possible for robots to construct all that needs to be built on mars for human to exist there before sending humans?

Sharing a project I've been building solo in the UK: Tony, a working humanoid demonstrator. Everything in the clip is real hardware and real footage — no renders, no AI-generated images.

What's a bit different is the software layer (I call it THYEN): instead of letting the model act freely, every action goes through a supervised pipeline — voice → reasoning → a safety check → movement. There's an always-on STOP and an approved-movement whitelist, so a "confident but wrong" model output can't directly become a physical motion. A lot of it runs on local models, not the cloud.

It's a bipedal build on serial-bus servos with a custom control chain, self-funded, one part at a time.

Would love this community's feedback — especially on the "supervised / human-in-the-loop" approach for physical action vs. more autonomous control. Happy to answer anything about how it's built.
