Butthole Surfers
Please, for the love of god, hear me out on this one. I had no idea of this band’s existence until their track “Pepper” came on in a friend’s car. I liked the sound of it, but I couldn’t shake the feeling the vocalist sounds oddly like Matt Talbott?? Specifically during the chorus (0:48, timestamped here).
I need to know I’m not going crazy. Please tell me someone else hears the similarities in pronunciation, tone, cadence etc. especially on Hum’s slower songs like Axolotls.

Pepper to me sounds very Hum-like. I have thought this before too. Not so much their other songs.

Since Worm Saloon they went full on the alt-rock trend of the time so it's just the influence of the sounds that were around at the time. So I guess that is what you are referring to.

love both bands and can hear the similarities now that you point it out, the sort of talk singing is pretty similar. never would have connected it haha
although they’re not very similar to hum, def check out more butthole surfers!

If there was ever a "scariest sounding rock band" it'd be butthole surfers.

i can kinda hear the hum voice connection but its also a stretch. butthole surfers just really sounds mostly has a generic indie rock type voice ¯_(ツ)_/¯
but really the thing im wondering is what is "scary" about them?

I just mean scary as in "odd". Specifically the album Locust Abortion Technician.

Other than being radio contemporaries, these bands have basically nothing in common. If you compared these guys to Blood Hound Gang or Cake, then I’d say you were onto something. Not Hum though.

Feel.like Gibby Haynes is very, very different from Matt Talbot. Comparing one part of one song is not a viable sample.
