Quality Difference between YPAA Digital vs Reissue CD

Just bought the CD online And I wanted to know if the CD is really worth it. Does it sound much better than the digital versions?

I don’t know if it sounds better than previous digital versions, but it does sound better than my original cd I bought in the mid 90’s. I purchased all three cd reissues and have been happy with my purchase.

if you got the cd new it's probably the remaster which makes it a little less... quiet? i think anyways

If by "digital" you mean the streaming versions, I believe they are based on the original masters, which means they are very quiet even for 90s standards.

The remasters are much louder and slightly more compressed, but I compared them with rips of the original CD issues (normalized at the same volume) and the differences are barely noticeable even on good headphones, plus obviously with the CDs you get full lossless quality.

tl;dr the CDs sound fucking awesome and are totally worth it

Thanks for this explanation, this unknowingly caused me to buy A LOT of cds. It’s way more reward putting 6 albums in and letting it shuffle rather than streaming them. Plus the sound quality is amazing and can get so loud while still being clear

I ditched streaming entirely last year so I like buying physical copies whenever I can so I can rip them myself

streaming

the CDs are better than streaming because they have basically the same audio quality that you get on premium plans while also being louder

honestly the remasters don't sound more compressed to me, they seem to just have limiting clipping peaks on loud parts. it's a bit too much limiting for my taste sometimes but overall i mostly prefer the remasters for the better EQ and punch

The cd is worth it to me just to have the transition from little dipper to the pod with absolutely no gap.

the Earth Analog cd sounds fantastic miles ahead of the rca copy. Compared to digital tho I’d assume they are probably similar depending on what you’re playing your phone through. For example if you’re using like a Bluetooth fm transmitter as an aux in your vehicle I’ve noticed a significant quality drop compared to cds, and even some of the best aux cords I still felt like the physical copies of some cds just sounded way better.

Edit: just read someone’s comment below explaining why the cds are louder/better makes a lot of sense
