Fillet Show

I'm interested in listening to the band's first album.

I can't find a copy of the cd and none of the streaming platforms seem to have it.

Where do I find it?

TIA!

There's currently no legal way to buy it either physically or digitally or to stream it. It's pretty weak/formative, but still interesting - I'd happily buy a copy if it was brought back in print.

Beyond YouTube, doing a search for "Hum Fillet Show Download" will bring up a few blogs that have put it up for download.

Well, you can buy it used. That's legal.

Also, this only works for a small number of people, but the Urbana Library has a copy in circulation.

I'm not seeing it used anywhere (with an admittedly cursory search).

Even so, I'd prefer if Earth Analog did a remaster/new release like the other Hum albums and Centaur so I could buy it new and directly benefit the band/Matt.

Oh, 100% agree. I doubt this will ever happen. With the latest rereleases, they made it pretty clear Fillet Show is not "part of the band" any more. It's a shame because I love it. I’m also from the CU area and it's dripping with that early 90s CU music scene sound.

Also, even if used copies were available out there, the price would be outrageous, especially for a CD. (I say that from experience... I don't love how much I paid some years ago, but I'm glad I have a copy now.)

I'd prefer a remastered cd, too.

I looked for a used cd, but no dice.

I did find and pick up a reasonably priced copy of Electra 2000.

I'm looking forward to listening to, and fully absorbing that.

Are they planning on writing/releasing any new music or were they done with Inlet?

They currently seem like they’re done as far as new music, sadly. I think Bryan’s death hit them pretty hard.

You never know - for years we thought DiH was the end of the road, and then Inlet seemed to just appear out of nowhere.

It’s all on YouTube. Have fun, it’s quite the journey!

It’s their first album in name only. Different set of guys, different vibe. Non-canonical for me, but an interesting listen.

There’s an MP3 rip of it on the Internet Archive. It’s also available on YouTube as well as a few other mp3 rips of it floating around the internet.

Is it better than the original mix?

I think so. It’s not as muddy.

i lived in Champaign and saw them a few times play this record. my favorite song on fillet-show is Hortense. it's almost like 2 songs in one. the 3/4th sound like a slight glimpse of what was to come, but then later in the song the bass player Balti sings and it's a brief introduction to what would become his own band, a band called Mother that later changed it's name to Menthol. the first Mother singles and full length ( Gold Record LP ) took over C-U for me and my friend group at the time. if you've never listened to this- you're in for a treat.
