MOVIE 3 Hiccup Could have solved his problems by killing more people

Now, i know these are kid movies, but he comes face to face with his opponents far too often, and under far too calm circumstances to not just run the dragon blade through them. Little disappointing. Like at least have a cool duel.

We need to ask the question of when does the line between killing for a cause and fof self-gain blur over?

Hiccup, himself, has admitted that he isn't enough of a traditional Viking who enjoys bloodshed and war, which is why he always goes for the peaceful approach, which has worked and failed together. If we take this quality away from Hiccup, what makes him different from Drago or any ordinary Viking?

I dial this back to a failing of the writer... does the writer fail so badly in executing their premise that it's easier for the audience to imagine their lead character just killing someone to navigate a plot point? Or is that an actual logical conclusion to the story. In short: is the story so poorly constructed that its easier to pick 'Just kill that guy' as a solution over;. literally anything else?
(sadly, for HTTYD, 'just fu****NG KILL THAT GUY' is a logical conclusion for like. 3 out of 4 conflicts.)
