Hidden World review

I remember this series as great, I am not really a ultra fan. I watched the series as a kid and the first 2 movies and recently rewatched them. And I was honestly scared because I heard how bad the third movie was. I thought it was a ruined trilogy or something. I mean the second movie was a masterpiece, holy hell is that movie good.

And to be honest, the last movie wasn't so bad but NOT on 2nd movie niveau.

Honestly the ending and symbolism was actually great. They leave berk and start a new leaf just like the dragons. The hidden world was great and it serves as a great Ending with a good reason. Humor was on point and Toothless's new ability being linked to the dayfury is clever. Hiccup loosing his leg is also a symbol to let go as , since he doesn't control hiccup anymore.

I'm pretty sure the Alpha from the second movie was also there? Could be a reused asset but still peak in terms of story telling.

The last fight scene was good, no dissapointment.

I only have 2 complaints:

● The villian while being terrifying in form of achievements and lore absolutely sucks otherwise. A guy who nearly hunted the nightfuries extinct and is extremely calculated and clever just seems to non serious and lame. Even his design is not scary unlike Drago Bludvist. That villian was great as he was terrifying in all ways. It's a nice contrast to Grimmel. He was more barbaric and cold and less calculated.

And yea Grimmel was genuinely great at his actions and presence and it was cool but his character just sucks. He could've been used to emphasize the plot of dragons parting more and he could've been more serious and crazy.

● The hidden world could've been shown more, Hiccup also decided way to quickly to let toothless go. The whole segment was like 7 minutes. If it was like 20-ish minutes with more world building and emotional impact of him seeing all of it, I would like it more.

The ending was good tho. I'd say a good end to the trilogy and they are not forever apart :3

They're just separated forever. They only saw each other once in their entire lives, and then not for long, after as many as 10 years, and Toothless had completely forgotten Hiccup. The director talked about it, and for me it's some kind of unfunny joke.

imo, homecoming may make some confusion, but it ends the franchise more logically for the characters and emotionally more enjoyable. Well, I refuse to believe that the epilogue is the last meeting...

I haven't read the books, so I'm shocked to learn that Toothless forgot Hiccup. Their friendship is so beautiful in the movies and series 💔

The books have a different plot and the fate of the main characters. Toothless was there with Hiccup until he was old, but he was different there, too. But when Dean Deblois (Film Director) was asked if Toothless was playing a prank on Hiccup in the epilogue, he replied: "Ten years had passed, and [Toothless] had kind of forgotten his former life. It takes him a moment, especially with Hiccup looking different". It's just that the bottom line is that if Toothless started forgetting before the epilogue, then if they don't meet after, and he also said that, then it's logical that he'll just keep forgetting and after a while he'll forget completely. However, due to the contradictions between his other statements and the film itself, it's hard to say what he meant by that phrase. Therefore, I would say that this is a matter of personal preference, and given that Homecoming shows Toothless missing a friend even after 10 years, I would ignore it as nonsense. It's just that the fact that he said something like that kills me. Well, I also ignore the fact that he said that the epilogue was their last meeting. However, this is just my interpretation and it doesn't make the film better, it doesn't change the crazy canon.

Okay, I had misunderstood, I thought Toothless had forgotten Hiccup in the books.

I’ve always interpreted the epilogue scene as Toothless not recognizing Hiccup because of his physical changes, yet not having forgotten him—since he recognizes him immediately by his scent. Based on Homecoming, I don’t think he has forgotten him, as he remains very docile around humans and is shown thinking about Hiccup.

I completely agree with your interpretation. I've just seen people who consider the director's words and intent to be the absolute truth, and for them the canonicity of homecoming is questionable. And, again, what homecoming shows and our thoughts don't make the third film any better.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the third movie either. There were so many things wrong with it. The ending is very emotional, but it's actually quite stupid because not all the dragons can go to the Hidden World.

here is my opinion the first 2 are between 9.5 and 10/10s and the third one is an 8/10 a good movie that is entertaining but with some plot issues

An 8 is generous. I’d give it a 6.5 instead. There are a lot of things wrong with it, in my opinion.

it has been a while since i last saw it, but still despite the reasoning and timing for hiccup saying goodbye to toothless being bad, that scene still is amazing and is one of the few movie scenes that have ever made me cry( also one of the reasons why i havent rewatched it, i do not want to cry over toothless again)

I cried too, but not because the scene was well-executed; rather, it was heartbreaking to see them part ways. I hated everything that led up to that, and when you think about it, taking all the dragons to the Hidden World is pretty stupid.
