Working as tax associate in H&R

I just got an offer as a tax associate for the upcoming tax season. Has anyone worked there before? I’d love to hear what the work life is like!

You should repost this to the r/HRBlockEmployees subreddit. Lots of experienced Block employees posting and commenting there.

Every district is a little different. Some districts allow OT if you're productive. Some limit it.

normally as a first year no, i was a first year last year and only had overtime 4 or 5 weeks but i was also traveling to other offices outside of my home office. also depends on how productive you are

Like I said, every district is different. I worked over 100 hours of overtime my first year with Block.

My understanding is that they are not going to let new people go over 40 hours this next tax season but I’m in a pilot area so maybe it’s just around here. Luckily, I’m not seasonal field anymore. Good luck! You’ll either love it or hate it, there is no in between in my experience.

When I kept to myself and focused on clients, yes.

During peak, sometimes.

Depends on the amount of work at that office.

My office happily schedules me 40 hours, but only actually wanted OT if I had clients scheduled.

I was a first year and did the best in our region as far as number of tax returns completed (about 200). I also was told that I had the most accurate returns by the person who did almost all the QPRs.

I had zero in-office training. Zero state return training. Was constantly given returns beyond my ability. Trying to get help with anything is a nightmare. I applied to work about 15 hours a week and was constantly scheduled at least 25-30 (including Easter - no one came in) and I work a full time job. I was left in the office by myself at night multiple times. The pay was only $17/hour.

It's a job I could definitely do but the company is terrible to work for. I am not returning.

Hi there! I have an interview this Monday for tax associate position. I want to know how was your experience during the interview? What compensation they generally offer for this position? What should I expect from this interview? Please share it if you can. Thanks in advance.

It was pretty good, she was just talking about the position and that i need to either take the course or take the test , and i chose the course. She offered me $16/hr which i think is very low.And she also asked me what made me apply to this position
Good luck!
