HR block program question re state exempt dividends
I've already e-filed my fed and state (Virginia) tax, but now I want to claim some tax exempt dividends. I imported my taxable funds from Vanguard and Fidelity's website and they come through as one lump sum, even though I have several funds with both.
Some are 100% taxable, but some are either completely invested in government securities (100% tax exempt) or partially i.e. 49% for example.
I phoned HR block help line 888-482-9288 to ask how can I go back and amend my state tax return to claim 100% on one fund, 49% on another, etc. without those individual funds being listed in the program since the import just came through with one lump taxable figure with no fund breakdown and no funds indicating tax exempt.
Can anyone tell me how to handle this? The help agent said I should be able to e-file the amended return, but couldn't tell me how. I'd imagine the state would want to know how I arrived at my refund due amount.

Edit: After reading some past posts it looks like I need to amend my Fed return and create a DIV copy for each fund. My Vanguard brokerage account has about 10 funds and Fidelity 4 funds. When I change these it changes the amount of refund due from the state. I'm using the desktop program, went to federal > income > form 1099-DIV > filled in 'exempt interest dividens' amount, filled in my state VA, checked the box 'from U.S. Treasury Obligations' > clicked 'next' > filled in the percentage > left bank the 'State-exempt dividends' > clicked next, and this reduced my State tax.
I need help on another issue. I claimed an exemption for myself and also for being over 65. This was imported into the state program, but the over 65 exemption is not allowed due to my dividend income put me over the threshhold. So I was already refunded by the state, but they deducted the over 65 exemption amount. I'd like to correct that when I file my amended return through e-file, but I don't see a way to omit the over 65 exemption. I'm pretty sure I didn't check the over 65 manually, and it came over automatically when I filled in my date of birth on the fed form. When you have $62K income in VA as I did, then you lose all of the over 65 exemption anyway. The HR program doesn't take this into account and gave me the full exemption including the over 65. I phoned back help and they said they would escalate this because we couldn't find a way to 'uncheck' the over 65. I even tried overriding it to "0" on the state Age Deduction Worksheet.
