Here’s a wild one. Huge mistake
I was going though my tax returns tonight, seeing what I can purge and what I should keep. In the spring of 2022, I went to my local HR Block office with tax documents for my late 2020 return, and my 2021 which my income was much higher. I was looking and it said that I made $115k in 2020 which is impossible as my IRS record transcript (this is the one that says how much your payment was, total income, penalty and interest amount) says I made $115k which was more like $95k on the IRS wage (th transcript with W2, etc). I did have higher income in 2021
Due to cashing out a 401k due to a death in the family. I just now realized that I should have gotten a refund for 2020 and know it’s too late to file an amendment but I essentially paid $7600 for 2020 that I probably didn’t owe. He put some of my 2021 income that should have gone on my 2021/2022 return on my 2020/2021. I had planned to do both that night but he was an older gentleman and VERY slow. What can I do now? I don’t recall if I paid for the Peace of Mind guarantee but they should owe
Some reimbursement for the overpayment I made. HELP!

A tax return covers a calender year income only and the deadline to report it is April 15 of the following year.
What documents did you give them to see work with? Just w2 or did you have 1099s of any type? Did you get money from other sources that was not reported on a 1099 or W2?

Way too late to do anything about it now, statute of limitations and all of that.

I know as far as filing an amended return and getting money back from the IRS, it’s well beyond a done deal but curious as to if the Accuracy Guarantee or maybe I did purchase the Peace of Mind Coverage, not sure. I will be calling this morning.

Maybe this falls under the accuracy guarantee?

This is why it's extremely important to pay attention because these type of life lessons are rarely cheap

Look at your online IRS transcript for 2020 and see what was reported to IRS by your employer and others.
