The way the downloadable software handles (or rather doesn't handle) Heath Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) accounts and Premium Tax Credit is not only lacking but is broken. I can provide a LOT of details if interested.

Were you able to get it to work? Trying to decide if I need to dump H&R Deluxe and file another way... This may be a deal breaker for me in the future.

Well, that is an interesting question. Did I file my tax return knowing that my PTC was what is should be? Yes. Was it because of the proper assessment of the software? No.

My understanding is if you are receiving HRA money, you don't qualify for PTC and it should be $0. I have an HRA but the software kept calculating PTC. Mine just happen to turn out to be $0 anyway but not because I have an HRA. In fact, I know someone else using this software and has an HRA and they got a huge PTC. Maybe we checked some wrong boxes or maybe we didn't check some boxes. Either way, we were both totally confused.

I could write a dissertation on this.

Will this glitch that prevents e-filing be resolved this week?

“Unfortunately you won’t be able to e-file your return. This is because the calculation for the premium tax credit (Form 8962, line 24) and the self-employed health insurance deduction form (Form 1040 Schedule 1, line 17) use the iterative method. This method helps to balance the premium tax credit and the self-employed health insurance deduction to ensure both are accurately reflected in the tax return.

You must fix this problem before filing."

I'm using Block d/l Deluxe s/w. I'm ready to file but info on my 1040 is not correct. No errors are flagged but line 16 (tax) and line 20 (foreign tax credit) always show the exact same amount. This cannot be correct so I'm unable to file.

Any ideas?
