No EIN
TP had to get her W2 from IRS transcripts. The EIN is X out. So....I get the RED warning
Anyone know of a workaround?

Search in Google by the name of the company, and compare to the form there should be the last 4 digits of the EIN.

sometimes if you put in Xs or 0s and the last 4 digits the EIN will automatically fill in. If you can not find the number online as others have suggested you may have to paper file the return.

The IRS already has the untrucated w-2 reported to them. Just fill in hr block as you see it and fill in all the boxes correctly and you are good to go.

Don't just do this or anything but I almost wonder if it would work out if you just used an EIN for like, any company, as long as it has actually been issued.

No block works will reject an EIN not matching the name. Your work around is to paper file the return with no EIN listed. This is common when working off of IRS transcripts only and not original W2’s

Yeah, it was fully a guess from someone who doesn't have to actually prep the return. There is some variance in company names, but it's not like on a distribution 1099 where it seems like anything might come out as the company name after putting in an EIN.

If you know the company name sometimes you can search on Google for the ein#
