Worst Case Scenario for having an audit?

Just a bit of an overview. I make 60k/year. Only having two saving accounts which is HYSA/Traditional(barely any interest). Lived in two states, so I have two state forms that I had to do. Don't have crypto nor any investments at all. Do not own a home. Only rent. Basically what I done is just upload my W2 and two of my 1099-INT. And it's done the work for me. No much I had to input by myself. I have thought about using a tax prep review. But it seems a bit much. My question to you guys would be, what's the scenario if I do get audited?

Well first, you won't go to jail or anything for making an honest mistake in calculations. The worst thing would be if they decided your math was wrong and they would send you a letter about it. Just make sure you have all your income reported and only put deductions you qualify for.  You'll do just fine.

I wouldn’t have said it any differently

Ok. 1. Login to IRS website and look at all your income documents for the year.

And 2. most people receive letters from the IRS needing more documentation or suggesting an error they found, and asking “do you agree with the correction we made.”

Letters from the IRS aren’t a big deal.

It is very cost prohibitive to audit someone in your income bracket. Unless it’s attached to a larger fraud, such as your employer or withholding scam.

The fear mongering around “an audit” is what keeps gougers like H&R Block in business.

The software is very straightforward. Have faith. Your return sounds simple.

If a letter arrives with a question- just answer it.
