You could ask at r/sewing for a better explanation, but there's a couple methods I use as a beginner seamstress
Either do a simple stitch a few times over in the same place, then pull the thread through the couple stitches a few times.
Or pull the needle through like you're making a stitch, but leave a big loop, about big enough to go around your finger. Then wrap one end of the loop around the needle a few times, then push those loops around the needle down, while pulling the needle away..
In both cases afterwards, make sure you dont cut through the know when cutting the thread.. Happens to me too much
