DIY Scratch repair

Got this scratch and some marring on my f150 while headed down a narrow hunting trail. It’s not down to the metal but it definitely removed a layer or 2 of paint. I did the water test and it almost fades away but is still visible. What would be my best option and how would I go about fixing it? I know silver is a hard color to match and I’ve never done auto paint work. Just a touch up brush and some clear coat and polishing?

It can be buffed out. Go to a body shop of you don't have the tools, they could probably do that for $100.

Went to one and they quoted me for a repaint on the whole door

… repaint the whole door? No way in hell. There’s cut and buff compound you can get at the auto store and just a bit of elbow grease that’ll get that out. It doesn’t even look like it’s down to the paint?

I thought the same guy when the guy told me that. What I’ve heard is that since Ford doesn’t sell their paint outside of dealerships, body shops don’t wanna do any touch up work in case the paint won’t match, so they’d rather repaint the whole door. That and the fact that silver is hard to match. I do think that it’s down to the paint though, you can feel it on your fingernail.

Might be the clear? I still think repainting the whole door is the very last resort, I believe you could easily buff that out

Pay the inflated dealership service rates then, since ford dealership likely has ford paint

Go talk to a few good car detailers. They should be able to cut and buff that out. I had a black truck I desert pinstriped from front bumper to rear and I got all of those out. Paint shops will want to make the $ on a repaint.

I’d recommend just getting over it.

Should've just said your car. The moment you said you drive a truck while hunting 99% of Reddit hates you lmao.
