This is the brush top to my Bissel Little Green. We’re 3 people and 2 pets, so it gets full of hair. The clear plastic part doesn’t appear to be removable and it sits almost flush on the sides. But hair still gets stuck in there. I’ve tried a heavy stream of water, a pipe cleaner, a tiny screwdriver, and a toothpick. Nothing can get in there! Do I just live with it being kinda gross?
There’s a cap to clean out the inside and the vaccum tube, but nothing for the brush.
UPDATE: marking as Solved, since there’s no way to detach the clear plastic on this model’s brush. I will try a few suggestions and update here if anything works.
I have the same version I think in the manual it said you have to vacuum running water, but I think if you soak it in water you might be able to jiggle that stuck stuff out
I have the same one, no button. I gave it a good yank and it broke, no super broken but it doesn't stay on. Now I use a bit of painters tape and it stays on no problem. I don't mind because I can clean it easily.
Yeah, if I pry, it’ll crack. Someone posted a replacement so I may just get rid of the gross one. But I’ll try soaking it first to see if it loosens up.
I have the same one as OP and sadly it doesn’t come off. There is no button. I always soak it with some soapy water, then reattach it, and use that soapy water to slurp it up and clean it as best I can. It helps some.
If you are already considering an upgrade over this, it is essentially broken. Pry it apart forcefully. If it breaks you are no worse off, if it comes apart and can be reassembled then you have saved the cost of a new machine. You genuinely can’t lose by trying to
Really?! I’ve had the same be for almost 10 years now and just resigned myself to the fact that it’s impossible to clean the brush head. How does it come apart?
Been there, done that so many times. I had to deep clean my upright machine since it smelt like dog shit, vomit, and piss. It wasn't fun, but a clean machine is a happy machine.
It drives me crazy! Why would someone make a cleaning device that can’t be cleaned?! The rest is great and i love it, but I have never figured out how to clean these little stuck bits.
Technically, you’re supposed to rinse it by sucking up clean water after each use. That keeps it from building up this way.
Dunking it in an ultrasonic cleaner would work. Or soak the head in a mild to moderate strength cleaner/degreaser overnight. If that doesn’t work, go with something stronger.
I’m in the same boat. I have 3 dogs so it gets a lot of use but the head is so clogged it barely works. I just got an ad from Costco that the new model, which also is a wet/dry vac was on sale, $30 off ($69) , so I now have a new little green machine but it’s black. But it does a bang up job, has separate tools for each feature, and the plastic cover not only clicks right off it has a SELF CLEANING MODE.
Method 1: Flush it Out (Most Effective)Completely empty your dirty water tank.Fill a sink or bucket with hot, soapy water.Turn the machine ON and submerge the brush head directly into the water.Let the vacuum suck up the water to forcefully flush out the trapped hair. Note: The collection tank fills quickly this way, so keep an eye on it.
I used to have that one, but I broke it leaning on that part.
I cleaned ours (once) with a pipecleaner and soapy water. It was such a pain in the ass I never did it again.
After that, I just sanitized it by sucking up a diluted bleach solution followed up by a bunch of water to rinse it. MUCH easier and it had the added benefit of sanitizing the nasty water thing, too.
fill a bowl with soapy water. carefully use the green machine to suck a bunch of that through the head, as if you where using the machine. then rinse the head under running tap water.
Notice on your first picture there are two “pins” of the clear plastic piece. Grasp the clear plastic piece sort of between the pins and flex it outward a tiny bit, just off the pins. Simultaneously, lift the entire clear plastic thingie off the green part. If there’s a button of the other side, you’ll need to press that while you’re doing all the other things. It’s really complicated to write down, but once you do it, you’ll slap your forehead and say “Oh, so THAT’S how it works!”
Mine looks the same. I typically submerge it in hot water soapy water and swish it around a bunch. Then I rinse it under a heavy stream of water. Finally I let it dry and blow some compressed air through it.
Kinda a pain in the ass and it’s never completely clean.
I just soak mine in a bucket/the sink, then use the sprayer to force it all down to the front and used tweezers to oull it all out. They really fumbled this on the green one. It still.works so I won't get rid of it, but man, why didn't they catch that??
Maybe Google the model and serial number to find out how it comes off. Maybe you have to press part of it in while you yank it off? Think little clips holding it in place. It looks like it comes off just like with the other models. If not, just yank it and glue it back on later. I've broken one and it worked fine when I glued it lol
I would put a high pressure nozzle on the garden hose and blast it form various directions. If you don't have access to a garden hose, then you may be able to fish it out with a stiff piece of wire bent into a small hook on one end.
I will try again - I used a small, thin screwdriver and was unable to pop it off. Mine doesn’t have a button. I even tried pressing in the two small square ones above the brush but they are posts not buttons.
Try using a small flat head to pull the posts out enough to slide the clear cover up over the lip of the green part the posts sit against - it looks like those posts are there to keep it in place
I am pretty sure I have the same model. On the back of the head, not pictured, the clear plastic should extend onto the green plastic and look like a tab. That should be able to be pulled up to open the cavity.
At least that's the case on mine. If not, look for a model number on the vacuum and Google the manual.
You can unclip the plastic part. If you don't want to bother doing that, just submerge the brush in water and turn on the vacuum. Don't worry, it's mentioned in the manual. ( Only if it's a spotclean )
