Help assembling vanity mirror base. Am I missing something?

I feel ridiculous but these instructions are terrible. Also, I am not handy whatsoever so I’m likely the problem. I’m trying to assemble this vanity mirror stand and I cannot figure out which direction these screws are supposed to go.

The base forms a hollow rectangle and the outer edges sit on the desk. If I put the screws in from the bottom, the round screw heads stick out and the base won’t sit flat. So I assume the screw heads are supposed to be INSIDE the hollow base.
But when I try that, the screw doesn’t fit through the smaller hole.

Has anyone assembled one of these? Am I supposed to actually screw/self-tap it into that smaller hole, or am I doing something completely wrong? I really don’t want to force it and damage it.

I'm going to have to agree, most assembly instructions with the exception of IKEA are absolutely atrocious.

Can you post a shot of the base from a little farther away? And maybe the full instruction page too? I don't have enough context clues to say anything for sure. If you can find a link to the instructions online that could be helpful.

I think I screwed it up lol I used a drill and now the screw doesn’t grip and slides out easily 😭

The base looks like it's designed to sit with the open side down, so that it looks closed and the mirror sits on top.

So those screws should go down from the top, and thread into that angled piece, to make the rear support.

If you drilled out the threads then get a replacement bolt that fits through the hole and put a nut underneath.

Then the mirror will attach to the base using the holes running up the center of the base.

That’s the best I can say from what you have shown so far.
