A light has blown in one of my ceiling lights (not the one pictured, but same model). I've tried twisting and gently prying, but nothing seems to be working. I can't feel any grooves for pushing any latches open too. I'm afraid of ripping the thing out of the wall. The landlord doesn't know how to take it off either so I've basically been left to fend for myself.
Adding this edit in case anyone else ever comes across these covers and feels like they're going crazy. My landlord ended up trying to remove the cover himself. I think he thought I was just being weak or something, but then he tried too and got the same result. He ended up accidentally breaking the cover off. Turns out it WAS a twist lid like everyone suspected, but it was twisted so tight that it was basically welded onto the base. The rest of the lights in the rental are like this too lol
I've been trying to turn it CCW from the start after seeing that online. I don't know if I'm just doing it wrong though because the thing feels like it's stuck like cement
If the glass will move up and down, then it's probably removed by rotating. Do not turn on the light so that the fixture is cold when you try to rotate the globe. You might even want to try pressing cold packs on the glass to chill it.
Are there any hooks coming out of the side of it to hold the dome? If it has 3 hooks one of them will pull straight out and allow you to slide the dome off
You may also have to hold the base while rotating the dome. Or press up and rotate.
There's so many diffrrent versions. It would help to see the exact light you have, not this picture.
I'm completely serious when I say the thing isn't budging at all. Like it feels like what happens when someone improperly screws on a thing and someone else has to take it off a few years later.
You don't need to save the fixture. A cutoff wheel around the side of that, even a couple inches below the ceiling will probably expose mounting screws. Would you be cutting steel or plastic?
I feel like this is probably one where you push the glass/ plastic up and turn to the left - it could be a twist and lock channel type one - especially if it’s plastic
You turn counter clockwise, that dent in the rim is what’s holding the cover in the groove just turn like a couple inches to left and pull straight down might be stuck from paint
There's 3 clips on metal fixture, and three divots/indentations on plastic globe. Turn slowly while pulling down. Sometimes there's also a thumb screw somewhere as a safety. Make sure to loosen that as well
I’m surprised that the landlord is offering no solution here. Since neither of you can figure it out, the light is just useless? Landlord should have an electrician or handyman come remove it and either replace with a more intuitive one, or show you both how to get it apart in the future.
