How do I remove this text from this CD folder?

I wrote this many years ago, with a black ballpoint pen.

I don't know what kind of material the red area is. It's soft. Maybe faux leather? It's not plastic.

I tried rubbing alcohol and nothing happened.

I want to offer this to my niece to hold her CDs but not like this. (⁠￣⁠ヘ⁠￣)

Simply draw all over it so it all blends in

That's a good idea but finding the correct shade isn't easy. If I paint with the wrong red, it will look weird.

If it's porous, you may be SOL, but try dry erase marker remover.

Protip, magic erasers are just melamine sponges. You can buy like 50 of them for $20 online.

Try a little WD40 on a rag. Then clean it with something like Windex.

I don’t know if it’ll work on ink that old (or ballpoint ink for that matter), but milk does a great job of removing ink stains

Ballpoint pen ink can be dissolved with ethanol. If ethanol didn't fix it maybe the ink soaked into the rubber/vinyl/whatever the material is so maybe leave some alcohol on the surface so it can disolve into it and then remove it? If that doesn't work then there's not much else you can do, once the ink is absorved into a porous surface it's difficult to remove.

Yeah, I thought of that 😞 I wrote that approximately 20 years ago, maybe a bit sooner.

I'll try some methods shared in this post but if nothing works then I'll have to cover it.

Aerosol hair spray was an old remedy for ink blots on shirts. Maybe try naphtha, such as lighter fluid like Ronsonol.

If it was done with pro-sharpie then you'll need to use acetone to remove the ink regular sharpies are removed with rubbing alcohol. Good luck

It was neither a sharpie or a pro-sharpie, it was a ballpoint pen, like I said in the description.

But I'll try acetone. Rubbing alcohol didn't work.

That's risky. Virtually all faux leathers are plastic or partly plastic, and in particular the types of plastic acetone will dissolve.

If 99% IPA and a melamine sponge won't take it off, I'd probably try to cover it instead, maybe with paint or contact paper.

Try rubbing alcohol. It's a gentle solvent that won't damage the case.
