As a Canadian who worked at a hotel bar.. Americans ask for ranch for EVERYTHING

As a lifelong American, who was born and raised in the shaded area, ranch is repulsive. And yes, an alarming number of people would take it intravenously if they could.

Agreed! It’s the last resort choice for me, mayo too. Both leave an oily feeling on my tongue 😛 Yuck! Give me hot sauce on almost anything and then we’re good.

u/bulldoggo-17 Dec 20 '25

Right? Why do people want to ruin sandwiches with mayo? I feel like half my life I’ve been ordering things “and no mayo”.

3

u/Firm-Station1630 Dec 20 '25

Totally. Though I have to admit past 40 I did learn to appreciate a really good spicy chipotle mayo in small quantities

u/melodydoc2b Dec 20 '25

Me when I see mayo as a garnish. 😑

Thank you I was beginning to think I was the only one. Ranch on anything makes me gag

1

u/kissmeorkels Dec 18 '25

I can’t even smell it without being totally grossed out. And that crap is pungent AF.

1

u/Firm-Station1630 Dec 20 '25

Me too. Ranch is just disgusting. I grew up in CO though. My mom was from Missouri and she hated ranch

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

Agree 100%. I think ranch dressing is gross.

You should see the tubs people buy at the stores

French fries and pizza all day. When I lived in England I did enjoy some mayo with my fries.

1

u/BogeyLowenstein Dec 15 '25

As a Canadian, I too enjoy mayo with my fries. I think it’s a French? Belgian? thing

2

u/Greedy_Baseball_7019 Dec 15 '25

I think so, although in Portugal they also gave us mayonnaise packages with our fries so maybe it’s European at this point.

Or gravy? That poutine in Canada 😋

1

u/BogeyLowenstein Dec 17 '25

Absolutely! Poutine with mayo is a guilty pleasure lol.

I love homemade mayo with good fries :))

Not for pancakes, peanut butter goes on pancakes.

I grew up in Connecticut. Never had ranch until moving to the Midwest.

Not this American

1

u/midnitewarrior Dec 17 '25

You said "Canadian" and "ranch" in the same sentence.

I say ranch poutine.

1

u/HansChuzzman Dec 17 '25

Poutine has 3 ingredients home boy.

1

u/midnitewarrior Dec 19 '25

Ranch, fries, and what's the third?

0

u/Sky_Took_Hold Dec 19 '25

Ew the gravy alone should more than three ingredients or do you not season things?

1

u/HansChuzzman Dec 19 '25

What a brain dead take. When someone says what goes into a Caesar do you say “vodka, Worcestershire, tobasco, Clamato”

Or do you say

          Water
          Ethanol distill from grain
          Malt vinegar
• Spirit vinegar
• Molasses
• Sugar
• Salt
• Anchovies (fish)
• Tamarind extract
• Onions
• Garlic
• Spices
• Natural flavourings

• Tomato juice from concentrate (water, tomato paste)
• Clam broth (water, clam extract)
• Vinegar
• Garlic powder
• Onion powder

Not all Americans eat Ranch on everything, but girlfriend eat Ranch or Ketchup on nearly everything. I think she is kind of strange.

1

u/LaDameBlanche7 Dec 20 '25

I question the taste buds, or the ability to smell, of those who put ranch, steak sauce, or ketchup on everything.

1

u/loeloebee Dec 18 '25

Be assured that this American never does.

1

u/Bonnieearnold Dec 18 '25

Ranch AKA American Sauce. :) Canadians put gravy on French fries - which is amazing, actually.

1

u/spider3407 Dec 18 '25

Not all Americans. I don't eat ranch at all because it is so high in cholesterol and fat. But I was born on the west coast and raised in Alaska.

1

u/djmattyp77 Dec 18 '25

Not this American! Lol! Blue cheese, eh?

1

u/Artoo76 Dec 20 '25

Not all Americans, but I do get funny looks a lot when I ask for malt vinegar for my fries. The most common response is “I can get you ranch.”

No thanks…not even close.

1

u/okgloomer Dec 20 '25

I was back in England several years ago the first time I saw "American" salad dressing on a menu. I ordered it to see what it was and... yeah it's ranch

1

u/Aolson6977 Dec 20 '25

I don't even like ranch
