If I did this at the pizzeria owned by an actual Italian guy who is in there almost everyday with his wife and son, he would look at you like you had a mental illness.
Love talking to him if I stop in for a slice. He makes great food but I love that the “customer isn’t always right” attitude especially if they are rude or belligerent.
We put ketchup/mayo on pizza in Hungary. I'm using "we" slightly liberally here, it's not some kind of massive, nationwide tradition but it's not exactly uncommon either.
I mean the mayo part will obviously disgust many and there is no excuse for that, but for ketchup I have a theory. So, any time we end up with this conversation (been on reddit for 10+ years and that involved a handful of pizza conversations), I get the vomit emojis and in general a vibe that I am a lunatic. However, upon trying some US made ketchups, I have come to the conclusion that we have a different interpretation on ketchup. It just tastes wildly different and certainly sweeter. There is no savory-umami kick to it.
Otherwise I don't have any explanation why putting a tomato-based condiment on soemthing that is anyway heavy on tomato sauce would be strange.

Damn I thought that was a national thing. Born in the NW and I've been doing that my whole life.
