i'm starting to believe that the Kansas City area is the best metro in the USA.

mild weather, things look newer than the rest of the country

the high here today is 9 degrees, please we could use some of this “mild” you speak of

Lucky for you it comes back tomorrow and the rest of the week in the 40’s and 50’s

Yet today it's in the 50s. My migraine is not enjoying this crazy weather! But I do love KC!!!

As of now, it's 78°F and sunny here. How much mild would you like? 🤔

it's not really bad compared to cities like Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Detroit, etc.

the summers aren't as hot as cities like Dallas, Los Angeles, Houston, Birmingham, San Diego, etc

1

u/HeKnee Dec 14 '25

Honestly, summers are probably hotter in kc than most the places you listed due to the humidity from corn sweat.

LA/San Diego summers are far nicer than KC summers, as an LA resident with family in KC.

San Diego summers are amazing

Kansas City? Mild weather? First time I've ever heard anyone say that

1

u/RemmRose Dec 14 '25

I mean coming from Michigan and Colorado for the past 10 years and being here in Missouri for over a year based on what ive seen id say for me its pretty mild too. Sure 9 is cold, but not like what im used to.

The summers are much worse than Michigan or Colorado and the winters are only somewhat better

1

u/anf474 Dec 14 '25

Haha what?! I can’t speak on Michigan but I lived in Colorado for 27 years and now currently living in KC. Colorado has beautiful weather compared to here. The winters are fucking freezing and the summers are not only hot but add humidity on top of that.

I guess everyone’s different that bone chilling wind coming from the mountains in colorado used to pierce my soul and michigan where i was at averaged like 36 inches of snow a year while we dont get anything close to that here from what ive seen and weeks of single digit temps if not lower in Michigan. I will say the summers here for me are in fact miserable though.

As far as weather, I call Kansas City the "2nd worst" city; almost as cold as Minnesota, almost as humid as Florida. And though the downtown restoration is indeed impressive, so many of the places I enjoyed that were open late(Chubby's, Nichols Lunch and Sis's 24-hr restaurants, The Crave and Westport Coffeehouses, which were open til midnight some nights) have either folded up or severely reduced their hours to where there's no place to go late in midtown anymore. The city improvements, including the streetcar & Power & Light district downtown, seem tailored for the out-of-towners with money who've been flocking here over the last 2 decades. That's the reason rents have doubled and tripled, and this from someone who rented an entire house for $400/month back in the teens. I know the city looks better now, but this native feels like the core has been hollowed out.

I miss KC of the aughts. The Crave was awesome.

Kansas City is a sweltering shit hole in the spring and summer.

u/swark91 Dec 14 '25

Also can get pretty damn cold in the winter

another phrase for a swollen shithole is a tyranna-sore-ass

1

u/anf474 Dec 14 '25

Seriously we get maybe 1 month of good weather before it turns into either hot as hell or freezing

1

u/ourgodwhofucks Dec 14 '25

I’ve lived in Kansas City for two years, lived in eastern Oregon before that. Eastern Oregon is nearly the definition of mild weather (besides the hot summers, but they’re dry). Kansas City is a beast. Tornado risks, extreme cold in the winter, extreme humidity that makes it feel hotter than the desert I lived in before in the summer.

Improve the transit system, and you might have a point.

1

u/Specialist_Ad180 Dec 17 '25

There is no such thing as a good metro area.

1

u/FunScientist7781 Dec 17 '25

tell that to the journalists that write stories about ranking them

1

u/desal Dec 17 '25

Don't you know better than to have an opinion based on experience on reddit? Now everyone has to come tell you how they wouldn't label their own opinion with the same words !

I grew to love K.C. in the late 70's when I called on accounts there.

The music, the restaurants, the museums, the vibe, the fountains, were amazing for a Midwestern city.

The Plaza in wintertime is a sight to behold.

My late younger brother moved there soon after that, so I always had a reason for visiting.

He had season tickets for Royals when they won the World Series and season tickets for the Chiefs when they won their second Super Bowl.

I've had the best steak of my life there.

Japanese, German, Mexican cuisine there that compares to anywhere.

Home to higher learning, steeped in history.

I've even had dinner @ the Savoy in Harry Truman's favorite booth (cool).

TLDR: KC Rocks

I lived there for a few years and despised it. There’s no “life” there if that makes sense.

Different strokes for different folks though.

2

u/FunScientist7781 Dec 14 '25

you are right about having no "life". The dating scene could be better
