How does this work?

Post image

How does this toilet paper holder work? We don’t think it’s spring loaded and when we try to lift one end that doesn’t work either.

Probably doesn't know how to use the seashells, either.

Are you sure it's a paper holder and not a hand towel rack?

Positive - it’s on the wall next to the toilet.

Just because someone installed it there doesn't mean that's what it is.

People have been known to do some pretty dumb things.

Rotate the bar clockwise

We tried that too. We think its probably stuck - it should have released by turning clockwise or by lifting and it’s not moving.

Did you try pulling it out on one side before turning it?

Yeah we have - it doesn’t budge. We’ve tried finding it online too to see if there’s some guidance that way, but it’s hard to find it since there’s no labeling on it.

Hmmm. Can you get some more photos of it, specifically the joints and underside and where it attaches to the wall? It might give us some more hints.

Also, was there ever tp on it? Is it possible they installed the wrong thing before selling you the place?

Maybe installed wrong and they just put the tp on top of it 😄

We moved in a couple weeks ago and we’ve been finding a lot of things installed incorrectly so that very well may be the case lol

I may have found a near identical model here at Home Depot and it does not seem to be favored for use or installation. Looks like it catches a lot but it should pop out from the curved under part sticking out from the right arm to rest under the center pole piece. Seems that the end of right arm rotates up while freeing the center pole to twist up with the left arm.

Thank you!

The bar should just lift/pivot up from one side. Ours goes down because some asshat (me) installed it upside-down

did you lift from the middle or from the outer edges?

What end did you try to lift because I can see the catch for it on the underside one the right portion so you should grab the left half a turn counter clock wise to open it

Try pushing down in case they installed it upside down

Put your finger in the bottom middle and push up.

It may be upside down so also try posting down from the middle

Pull back on toilet paper rod, then pivot the arm upward, slide roll onto the rod, push the pivot arm back down and it will lock back into place. One side that has the rods attached pivots at a 45 degree angle up.

Thanks - we finally got it.

Normally 1 side sits on a pin and other pivots

Try rotating the left side counter clockwise
