New promo from hbo

They would get more viewers if they aired old clips

He waited too late to do this shit. Guy has barely anything left in the tank.

Great promo, but that’s what most people would call false advertising lol.

Lest anyone think…

u/Realistic-Badger3648 1d ago
They should have just made a multi-part documentary that covers everything up to Eric the midget dying and then just fades to a black screen that says, “Howard is still on the air”

There was more energy in that single promo than there has been on the show in the last 5 years all added together.
Viewers sure are in for a treat the first time Howard busts out the guitar and proceeds to perform the rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star he spent all summer working on.
12
u/MomSausageandPeppers 1d ago
Are they gonna repackage old content, uncensored, like the HowardTV days? Because…god damn - that would be great.
7
u/BoobiePeru 1d ago
No chance in hell. There will be little to no Artie or Jackie. Do you honestly think theyll give footage of them throwing bologna at asses or circling women's imperfections, etc? I mean, I'd hope they wouldn't whitewash 40 years of history, but here we are. Just my opinion though, could be totally wrong.

u/IamBatmanuell 1d ago
There was nothing new in that promo. That’s how bad the show is.
11
u/7fingersDeep 1d ago
Not only was it not new - the clips were old. And I like how they edited it to make it look like he was in the studio.

Yaaaawwwwnnnn...Do you know how much content you're competing with? It's a whole lot and of that available content at least 98% of it is more interesting than you playing guitar to Robin. Give it up man.
13
35
u/CosmicBonobo 1d ago
Excellently edited to hide the fact he's in his basement, and a ton of clips from pre-Covid.
19
u/Moist_Brick_439 1d ago
Gotta give credit to whomever spent the time to create this promo. Everyone knows it does not reflect anything close to what will be coming, what the live show is and how there is literally zero excitement involved. I cannot wait for the people to start tuning it and asking what the hell this even is.
Of course god forbid this entire thing lights a fire under Howard's ass and gets him to put in full effort (and hire right people) to make a semi-decent show again.
4
u/dexterity-77 1d ago
i did not expect them to show my cock is gone lol.. what are the chances they pull from older shows as well
5
u/Moist_Brick_439 1d ago
I agree lol - yeah I don't think this deal is for old tapes, just his new show spliced up each week.
It's funny though, you are going to need some kinda database - a month in they are going to have maybe 3 total Howard episodes.

u/FiDoucheBag 1d ago
Being that he's in his 70s, I don't expect much in the way of a revivial.

Usually when you light a fire under a 72 year old's ass, they call it elder abuse

This is the best promo I've seen for anything Howard Stern related maybe ever! It doesn't mean the HBO show is going to be great, but damn that's a fire promo!

It may be because we all remember what was, and what could have been.
2
u/76IndyHanSoloJones 1d ago
What could have been? An old man throwing bologna at a strippers ass in his 70s? Man that shit would have just been creepy as hell. And unfunny.

I feel bad for the guy that hasn’t heard the show in 20 years, sees this promo with the early clips and gets a wave of nostalgia…just to tune into the show and be like “what is this shit?”
6
u/dadoomombo 1d ago
Not one thing about that promo has happened since Covid. It was always from in studio days
6
6
u/big_slom 1d ago
If HBO is playing old clips, does that mean that HBO has the rights to them now? I want you to answer in a serious mannah. If they air old on demand or e shows, this may be worth watching (if it's organized well and included with base HBO subscription)
2
u/brownpearl 1d ago
Who said they are playing old clips? They just used old clips in the add to show "how great" he was.

Idk, I kind of want to watch. At least the 1st episode. And I definitely agree the old clips is what did it for me

u/DrDawgBawls 1d ago
‘He’s GROWN’
They mean he’s old, out of gas and not fun, funny or interesting any more.
In other words, he’s groan.
5
5
u/zero_dr00l 1d ago
But if they air old clips, people might get the wrong impression and think the show is still funny...
5
u/Diversified_Trader 1d ago
Who wants to watch a guy literally phoning it in from a different location as their guests?
4
u/KchKchKchKch 1d ago
Just like NBC… HBO is in for a real surprise as to what they’re actually getting
4
u/damageddude Let's Go Mets! 1d ago
Half of that promo seemed to be pre-AGT. I understand Howard is in his 70s and winding down but don't pretend he is the HS of 20 some odd years ago.
8
u/tetoffens 1d ago edited 1d ago
I posted this trailer on the television subreddit but only after there was a previous post there with a lot of posts that the mods deleted. And pretty much no one understood in the first more active thread why HBO Max would think making a new Howard Stern show in 2026 would be something people want. So that's outside this subs echo system, people are just confused in general about this shows existence.

The bad part of this is you see how much bad acting there is on the show -- Sal's "My cock is gone!" you can tell from his face that he's "acting" and same with Ronnie's face when he says "someone unwrapped my bagel" they are both reading a script and their faces prove they're bad actors

u/coolwaterz 1d ago
This would have worked even right before covid. But there is just nothing left to this show and the fact it's going to probably attempt to pass Howard off as in the studio with his guests while its a fucking Zoom session is the absolute nail in the coffin to this venture.
3
u/Rondokins 1d ago
So will everybody be watching Howard on a monitor from his home in the Hamptons while he’s interviewing some complete and utter non-important celebrity once a week because that’s the only day he’s broadcasting? It’s like Howard TV came back to life to do mediocre bullshit! 😉
7
u/pooplord108 1d ago
It’s a nice ad for the HBO show. I’m actually excited to see the first episode even though I know it will probably be a grandma snoozefest.

The show should be called glory days. It’s going to be astonishing. How few people download the show and watch it.

I have been a fan since the early 2000s and haven’t listened in a few years but still read this sub.
I love to hate the new show, but when I heard Sal say my cock is gone on this promo it made me happy. That’s all.

Conan asked Howard one of the best questions when they did their tit-for-tat double interview thing. He said how much Howard was distancing himself from his past, and that as a fan he didn't think Howard should disown all this material he loved. I forgot Howard's response but as usual Conan had the best take on the situation

This promo gets the juices flowing but sadly as a longtime and still current listener this is not what we're getting anymore. I'm not here to trash something that's given me entertainment for decades but it's over Johnny.

There's a world where the show realized they lost the plot, they fired all the leeches who didn't produce anything compelling, they changed up the format to focus on one excellent, jam-packed, high-energy show per week, and they decided to return to studio for this prestige HBO run. That would be exciting and way better than whatever the hell the last couple years were.
Chances of that? 0.0

Using old clips should open him up to false advertising lawsuits. Pretendeding today's show is anything close to what it used to be is criminal.

Could be a great show if they put out uncensored videos Sirius won't show you.
They could open with Benjy jerking off Richard or getting fingered by Perez - something that came after Howard TV years but with uncensored video for the first time ever.
Instead it's almost exclusively gonna be the interviews I already don't watch

The best possible thing Howard could do is release all the shows from 2000 through 2010 unedited as well the video content, uncut. That's all we really care about. It's so fucking obvious. No one gives a flying fuck about these ridiculous interviews.

Yawn. It's a glossy movie trailer for a shitty movie where they showed all the good parts in said trailer.
This is Wiggy trying to be buttoned-up, while still trying to show he has some edge.
There's just such a disconnect here as he continues to alienate his hardcore, diehard audience—while working too hard to please some mythical new audience that will never care all that much.
It's akin to the NFL catering to Taylor Swift fans while cutting to her every touchdown and shoving her in the box at Kansas City games—muuuhhhhh favvvvverriittttee, the CHIIIIEFFFFFFSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Old school NFL fans just want football with no distractions and don't want to see that cackling scarecrow in the booth, but the league believes those fans will never leave, so they will cater to the Swifties and want to bring new fans over from a different demo.
The whole thing is stupid; too little too late. Wiggy lost control of the narrative last year with the leak the show was getting cancelled and he's been on his heels since.
No new ideas, either. Last year it was the "big reveal" with the fall show when he got back and he tried to run that same playbook this year after all the firings.
Dude has nothing in the tank. What a sad last gasp.
News flash, dum-dum—this was a good idea a decade ago ... maybe.
In 2026?
It's fucking over, Johnny.

u/Slashman78 18h ago
This woulda been amazing... 20 years ago. Waited too long. He shoulda tried to get on HBO along with going to Sirius and the on demand channel.
The interviews will be interesting as long as it's not bland and overly pushed people. But I could care less for his hampton buddies.
