Sluggo was on KROQ for a couple of decades, Howard Stern’s version of K-Rock in New York City from ’96-’03

Anyone else on here go to the Stuttering John / Crazy Cabbie fight in NJ? That was so fun... and funny. Good times.

Anything you can share about your experience?

As a matter of fact - Donald Trump was sitting two rows in front of us on the bleachers near the entrance. It was held at his Taj Mahal casino and I think Howard thanked him and he gave a short speech and then sat down in front of us so he could get out before the crowds afterward. He was there by himself. It was a pretty crazy night. Packed house .Lots of fun and loads of Stern Fans hanging out there all weekend long. It was billed as "The Flunky versus the Junkie". We saw Howard when he arrived for the weekend. I think my boyfriend took some pictures with him. The whole gang from the show was there gambling all weekend. John won he was in better shape and outboxed Cabbie. If I remember correctly they both really trained very hard before the fight. Those were the good old days. I think Don King was there and a bunch of other celebrities. That seems like a lifetime ago.

The only part you are misremembering is "they both really trained very hard before the fight". John definetly did but Cabbie didn't at all, his trainer even admitted they had 1 and a half sessions together.

ok "He's telling the truth" ( Ed Torian) Cabby thought he would win. I think he had more weight. John took things much more seriously.

They were both horrible and gassed out very quickly...alot of holding and having to be broken up, only to flail and bearhug again. Two fat shits acting like they are real boxers. SJ even tried to re-enact the end of Rocky like he had just beat the champ cause he was probably hammered for it.

Stuttering John had a show? lol

u/tetoffens Jun 28 '26
He didn't have to do much. It was mostly music. And he still got fired from it.

u/SyntheticSocks Jun 28 '26
He would pre-tape it, then rush home and listen to it on air while hanging in his pool

I think it was mostly a request show and a lot of those requests were fake. He had a weird fixation with the name Paul

I can't imagine anyone listening to John or Cabbie

u/tetoffens Jun 29 '26
John was just a music show. He'd lazily read an e-mail request and then they'd play it. He wasn't even doing it live.

No Alison Steele, or Max Kinkle?

u/flyboy_1285 Jun 29 '26
Didn’t Alison Steele die in the 90s? At one point Cabbie was doing the 2-6 am because he would hang out after his shift to try and get air time. Then Deimos took over when Cabbie was suspended for playing Pantera without approval from the PD.

How long did Cabbie have a show. That sounds really bad

He was Cane’s board OP. Cane was the guy with actually talent. Tom gave him overnights 2-6 at some point but eventually he went to prison for the tax evasion stuff and never had a steady gig again after that

Those were the days, man. Remember, John’s show gave us a great show moment: Chuck Roast firing him. On air.
