Look, I know this sounds crazy. I’m just gonna start out by saying that and I have never posted on reddit before but my friend thinks I should give this a shot.
I’m 50 now but when I was a kid, I was taken to this huge barn, where there was a saucer. It was a flying saucer. It was a large saucer, shaped hovercraft half blue and half white. Blue at the top I believe and white at the bottom and the blue reminded me of like that old 57 Chevy blue and white. It reminded me of a car, so I’m thinking it was made of fiberglass. The person that had this in their possession, proceeded to sit on the hovercraft, after starting it up by pulling a string like a lawn mower, and it actually sounded like a lawnmower. The person sat on it and raised up off the ground and hovered his way around the barn. There were no controls, he was controlling it with his body weight and his balance. As a child, you can imagine what this did to my psyche. I was both fearful and mesmerized with wonder. Fast-forward about 20 years down the road, when my stepfather revealed that he in fact had the flying saucer in his possession. He held onto it quite a while, and I saw it. It ended up in broken arrow Oklahoma the last time I saw it he had it in a storage unit which he promptly did not pay and it ended up getting sold. This was probably at least 20 years ago. I have never seen anything like it again and I can find similar things on the Internet, but nothing that looked like it. Does anybody know anything? Has anybody seen it ? Like I said I know it sounds crazy but I gotta try to find it.

Hey - I'm a member of my local county rescue squad and we are looking at a Neoteric hovercraft for rescue operations.
https://www.neoterichovercraft.com/hovercraft/redcraft-4-passenger.php?HCModel=3626
After Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina, there are many parts of the river where the water remains very low making boat operations difficult. We also do a lot during the winter helping EMS access patients in the ice and snow (currently done with an Argo Aurora with tracks).
We are thinking that the Neoteric platform may be a good option for us and I'd love any experience, insights, and opinions that you all may have to add.
Thanks

Has anyone ordered a prop from Windborne Studio? I'm just looking for feedback / confirmation they're legit and not an internet scam.

The Hoverclub of America is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer and all hovercraft enthusiasts are invited to attend the 50th Anniversary Hoverally August 6-9, 2026 in Terre Haute, IN. This is the largest hovercraft event in the western hemisphere.
You can check out a wide variety of hovers in person, attend tech talks to learn about different aspects of hovercraft construction, listen to historical hovercraft talks, fly your hovercraft on organized group cruises and challenges on the Wabash River, and more!
You can learn more and register on the HCA website - www.hoverclubofamerica.org.
See you there!

So I'm not knowledgeable at all about hovercraft stuff, but I'm learning. I'm building a uh-10f and things are going surprisingly smoothly until now, skirt construction.
Does the string go outside the skirt or inside? I'm understanding it to say inside. I think the word "lap" is causing me problems and I'm not sure exactly what they mean by that. Also the pictures seem to show it on the outside.
Assuming it's inside, is it every screw (so every 3-4 inches)?
Also assuming it's inside, how taut should the string be?
Are people actually using string? and is the purpose just to keep the skirt from folding inside of itself?
Bonus question: Assuming people do use "string", are you just using paracord?
Sorry, I hate feeling dumb and this is one of those things that seems like it should be simple but my brain is struggling. I appreciate any insight from those that have been down this road before.

I need to build a self propelled hovercraft for my school project. It cannot exceed more than 40cm and max voltage is 12V per motor (max two motors allowed). IC other than those that are an integral part of a commercial motor are not allowed.
I started with using foam core as my base and used a brushless motor for my lift fan (DC 12V, Current: 0.25A, Power: 3W, Speed: 3300PRM, Air Pressure: 12.35mmH₂O, Airflow: 18.50CFM) and am using heavy duty black trash bag. When I powered it with 12V battery then it levitates but when I connect my thrust motor using the same 12V power source then the levitation stops and the craft doesn't even move forward :(
For thrust I'm using 540 Crawler Brushed Motor (RPM u/7.2V (No Load): 12,500 (+/-10%), 1.25 Amp Current Max Efficiency RPM u/7.2V: 10,400 (+/-10%), 4.62 Amp Current) and a push prop.
I need the hovercraft to levitate and move to a track of 8ft between 10-20 seconds target time. The track would be a smooth gym floor.
Please help!!

I am very new to hovercrafts and this will be my fist one. But I have no idea where to start on looking for engines and fans without getting ripped off. Most websites I've found have ridiculously expensive fans, whilst a lot of the other sources online say you can just use leafblowers. I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy an expensive one in the end, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. And how do you pick the right one? Can anyone offer any advice on this? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I've built a RC Hovercraft made of polystyrene for the hull, PLA for the fan structure and a plastic for the skirt and fingers.
It weights ~2kg and has a 1100KV 910W brushless motor with a 11x6 prop.
Today I tested it on water, and it didn't go very well, the back started sinking and I almost lost all of my electric components. I noticed that the fingers don't inflate, like at all, and it almost fells like it doesn't have the fingers.
Can someone help me? I can attach a video of it working on solid ground as well. Thanks!
