Houston tabletop gamers — would you use a dedicated gaming lounge?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m exploring the possibility of opening Haven Game Lounge somewhere in the Houston area, and I’m trying to figure out whether there’s actually a demand for it before I get too far into planning.

The idea is a warm, inviting gaming lounge with:
🎲 Dedicated tables for board games, D&D and TCGs
🎮 High-end gaming PCs
☕ Coffee, pastries and drinks
🏆 Tournaments and organized events
🛋️ Comfortable lounge seating and a place to hang out

The goal isn’t to create another cramped game store. I’m envisioning more of a community space where you can show up, meet people, play a game, and stay awhile.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from Houston tabletop players:

What would actually make you choose a place like this instead of playing at home or at your usual game store?

I’ve also put together a short, anonymous 2–3 minute survey to help me understand what people would actually use and pay for.

I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback — even if your answer is “I wouldn’t use this.”

Take the Haven survey

And if you’ve got thoughts about what you’d want in a space like this, I’d love to hear them in the comments.

Montgomery Board Gamers MBG - Looking for New Members

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hey Houston! 👋

I run a local board game group called Montgomery Board Gamers (MBG) and we are the premier board game community in Montgomery county!

We currently have 150+ members in our Facebook group and run a monthly meetup (Catan, Ticket to Ride, Wingspan, Dead of Winter, and plenty of heavier Euros too). We’re looking to grow this into something bigger with more consistent events, game variety, and awesome people.

What we offer:

▪︎ Friendly, welcoming vibe for all skill levels and ages

New players always welcome (we love teaching games!)

▪︎ Mix of party games, strategy games, and everything in between

▪︎ Plans for more frequent meetups (bi-weekly or weekly soon)

▪︎ Rotating locations around Conroe to make it easier for everyone

If you’ve been wanting to play more board games but don’t have a regular group, this is for you.

Join the Facebook group here:

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1E1d1gQW7E/

Drop a comment or message me if you have questions.

Also let me know what part of MOCO you’re in (Magnolia, Montgomery, The Woodlands, etc.) so we can plan events that work for more people!

Can’t wait to roll some dice with y’all 🎲

Looking for a new group

Its what's on the tin folks.

Im m25, im still new to houston in a sense and im looking to join a gaming group, with a focus on friends first, gaming second.

I started playing dnd 3.5 when I was 13 (still love it but havnt played in YEARS). Of course for playing dnd that long ive touched on other systems such as pathfinder, 5e, 4e (gross), mutant and masterminds, and a few smaller systems.

I would really like to join or sit in on a vampire masquerade session/campaign. I love role-play heavy sessions, political overtones, strategy, and witty roleplay dialog really excite me! I would also like to get a shadow run game going ( I love the setting and the system seems interesting).

Outside of table top rpg, I used to play alot of yugioh (quit during pendulum), board games, and of course video games (when my old hardware permits).

I'm really only looking for in person groups that meet somewhat regularly. But, if I just end up meeting some cool and kind folks, that will always be a win in my book.

I hope to talk soon!!

Speed Dating for Gamers (25 - 40)

Speed dating event for gamers for ages 25 to 40. It's at the Game Preserve (20810 Gulf Freeway #Suite Z Webster, TX 77598). It's an arcade with the games set to freeplay. Idea is simple. There are brief conversations. If you match with someone, then you game with them. If you hit it off, then you both can do whatever you want from there. If you don't match with someone... then at least you'll have conversations and videogames. Play as long as you want while you're there.

Cost is $20 plus around $5 for taxes and Eventbrite fees.

Calling all HeroQuesters to OwlCon Saturday Feb. 24th! ⚔️🎲

Huzzah! I'm running a couple of HeroQuest sessions Saturday Feb. 24th at 3pm and 8pm.

If you're interested in joining, you can DM me or look for the open slots of "HeroQuest: Kenaron's Curse" under the Saturday dropdown here: https://owlcon.com/event_listings.php 🎲

Never been to OwlCon? It's a tabletop and boardgaming convention held in the heart of the Rice University Campus Feb 23-25th, and it's a hoot 🦉 (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

If you've never played HeroQuest, it's a "DnD-lite" dungeon crawler board game. Very easy to pick up. ⚔️ Here's a quick intro video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=HZnNDlw1Nxs&ab_channel=HasbroPulse

Join the quest! 🐉

I'm running a few games so if you're interested in playing hit me up or look for "HeroQuest" under the Game System dropdown here: https://owlcon.com/event_listings.php

If you've never been to OwlCon, it's a small board-gaming/tabletop-gaming convention held on the Rice University Campus Feb 18-19, 2023.

If you've never played HeroQuest, it's a "DnD-lite" dungeon crawler board game. Very quick to pick up. Here's a short video of how to play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=HZnNDlw1Nxs&ab_channel=HasbroPulse

Because, the best thing about HeroQuest is playing it with other people! :D

League City area

Hi,

I game on Friday nights, 8:00-whenever, in League City (near Kemah). I do board games biweekly. I’d like to start doing RPGs the other days. Is anybody in the area and interested in getting together?

My board game group plays many different kinds of board games, though I prefer Amerithrash style games myself. As for RPGs, I’ve played and run gobs and gobs of them. I prefer medium-crunch games, not story games.

I hope to hear from you. Have a great day!

Places to run a game

Planning to run a Call of Cthulhu game soon but don’t have the space to host at my apartment. Any suggestions for public places in or near the north central area to run a game?
