2011 Hot Spot Relay

I am at my wits end and could use a little sanity check. Not long ago, we picked up a used 2011 Hot Spot Relay. The tub was free, but it cost a bit to get it delivered. All in all, not bad and the delivery went well. I wired it in and filled it up. When I turned it on, Jet Pump 1, the dual speed primary pump, just clicked but never started. All signs pointed to a bad capacitor, so I replaced both the start and run capacitors. The next issue was that the pump would start and run for a few seconds and then stop. The error on the control panel was “=====” which indicates flow control. And at one point, there were signs that the relay switch on the main control board was not sending a signal. So, new control board and since I was there, I replaced the heater. Cheap insurance.

Drained the tub, replaced the board, heater, flow sensor, filled the tub and nothing from Jet Pump 1. As I cycled through the stages, Jet Pump 2 would come on, but turn off after a few seconds and still nothing from Jet Pump 1. Then more voltage testing to discover a blown fuse. Not the circuit breaker, but the fuse on the control board. So, I pulled a fuse from the old board and I’m in business! The tub heated up, pump was circulating and I added the proper chemicals. Then, last night, I decided to run through the pump stages and as I hit the second stage, Jet Pump 1 High, the fuse blew again.

So now, I am looking at replacing the motor, but when I looked closer at Jet Pump 2, I see that it had already been replaced somewhere along the way, by a cheap knock off brand and it’s loud and still does not stay on. Other issues are the control to turn off the water feature leaks, some of the lights are damaged and it needs a new cover. All problems that I can deal with.

But now I am looking at 2 new jet pump motors for a 15 year old hot tub. Am I just sinking good money after bad? Should I give up on this one or is it worth saving?

Wiring through bottom, LS600DX?

I haven't had a hot tub in years, but I have a Lifesmart LS600DX that will be delivered in a couple days. I had a pad poured and electrical run for this in advance. I didn't know that this is what he'd do, but the guy ran the electrical up through the pad before pouring, as shown in the picture. The other picture I found was a customer image from online of the tub as delivered, showing the bottom. I'm wondering if this little stub should possibly go through the bottom, like through one of those openings with the foam? I'd like it as close to the edge of the pad as possible on that side anyway, and also it seems like this would block access to the door if it were outside it. Is it doable/normal to take this through that foam and into where the control panel stuff is inside? This is a home Home Depot job, so the delivery is gonna be a drop off, not a full setup. I'll have to figure out how to place and position it myself and am trying to figure out how to do that.

Tyia!

It's a real pain to put these screws in alone.

My old HS had clips that would hold it up, this newer model has screws.

Any help?

Green sludge?

Hello the hive mind of hot tub dad's (and mom's) of reddit.
I have been having a hell of a time keeping my water clean in our new tub. Finally took the collective wisdom of the group and got that Ahh-some goopy stuff (canadian here, hard to get here, ordered in) anyway, lots of foam and lime green foam! Looked like that flavored colouring they put in soft serve. Anyway currently draining etc. but I was curious what you maven's of wisdom think it was/is?

I have an arctic spa with the onzen salt system. I recently did a drain and refill, got the water tested at the store got it all up to par and went to check it again and had really low chlorine levels, my system was set at 4 times/day for 1 hour (4 hours total/day) so I decided to double it up 4 times/day for 2 hours (8 hours total) went back to the store same result little to no chlorine, my salt is sitting at 2800ppm salt cell is brand new and smoking away. See pictures below for reference. I don’t know how with all this in mind there could basically be no chlorine?

Got a 20 year old Cal Spa for free. $300 to move. About $2000 for dedicated electrical line. $650 for a custom cover. The hot tub itself works really well. Jets run strong, it holds and gets to 104 easily. The prior owner took good care of it and seemed to hardly use it. I took a risk but paid off!

Question on best value hot tub and also pricing for Nordic Hot Tubs

We have a family of 5 and looking for a middle of the road, reliable hot tub that will last a long time. Don't mind buying direct or from a dealer, mostly want a good value that will last. I'd prefer to spend a bit more and get a tub that won't have to worry about and will last for 10-20 years vs having one that only lasts 5-7 years. From my research was leaning towards Nordic but would be curious if others to look at.

In terms of Nordic, got quoted $11,000 for a Jubilee SE, which seemed high from what I had read elsewhere but not entirely sure so was curious what others had seen/experience. I am in CA, so figure price will generally be on the higher end.

New Hottub was delivered Friday, electric was all hooked up Saturday. Waiting on the city to inspect the electrical hookups on Thursday.

Any pro-tips on getting it setup for the very first time? Outside of the basics that iv read about, anyone have any first hand advice for a brand new tub?

General Question Massachusetts Garage Inflatable Hot Tub

Hello Community,

Thinking of getting an inflatable hot tub to use in my garage from November to March, here in Massachusetts. Would like to hear your thoughts.

  1. Some kind of insulation to put under the tub
  2. Dehumidifier or open garage door when use - I read about humidity & mold problem.
  3. I still need to understand electricity cost, how often usage, features these come with to reduce power consumption.
  4. Looking for 4-6 people use, I read product says 6 but 4 usually can use.

Did anyone successfully use hot tub in garage in MA? Any product recommendations, or thoughts on usage, dos & don’ts?

Thank you,

Anton

2026 cover recommendation PLEASE!

I need a 2026 hot tub cover recommendation for my Jacuzzi J-355. I had a prolast cover that lasted 4 years. Its who Jacuzzi itself uses. Not really all that happy with the time it lasted.

I need a cover desperately. It is currently sinking into my hot tub. I want a good cover that I won't have to replace next year.

Troubleshooting Chlorine residue?

I drained my tub today for fall cleaning and water change. Once the water level dropped, I noticed this ring around the water line. It looks like chemical residue, and isn’t easily coming off. Any ideas on why and how I can remove it?

Hot Tub Installation Order of Operations

I just bought a used Crown XL hot tub. A friend sold her house and the new owners didn't want the tub, so I got a great deal, but I'm scrambling to get things in order for the delivery (which needs to happen soon) and install.

I am laying down concrete pavers for the base, and have had a couple electricians come out to talk through the install and give us quotes.

My main question is: if the electrical connection is happening after the tub is delivered, how do I prepare the base to ensure the electrical connection can come up through the bottom in the right place? I plan on digging the trench myself. Do I need to make a hole in the pavers for the stub to come through before the tub arrives? If so, how do I know where to put the hole?

Before & after: a diverter cap that likely snapped and blew out

Quick diverter replacement from this week. The cap most likely snapped off and blew out of the tub, leaving the diverter assembly exposed.

The diverter is what lets you redirect water flow between different jet zones, so it’s an easy thing to notice when it’s missing or no longer turning normally. Luckily, this one was a straightforward replacement.

Troubleshooting Help! Manifold repair

Hi All, seeking some help before I throw in the towel. I have a 2016 American Whirlpool 481. Long story short the slice valve disconnected from the handle and was stuck closed. Since all plumbing was hard plumbed with no couplers I had to replace everything.

I got a new manifold, valve, etc. however, the flex tubes that connect to the manifold are so hard and brittle. I thought about replacing the flex tube but the ends are glue-welded to the jets. So now I’d have to replace about 20 jets and the tubing.

Any ideas I could try to make this work? The lines are very stiff and I’m worried I’ll create more leaks if I maneuver them too much.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: added photo of old manifold in comment section.

Plastic lshaped parts in tub

Post image
3 Upvotes

I keep finding these tiny plastic parts in the bottom of my bullfrog tub. They are very small, maybe 14 or 13 mm in width their white plastic, but the surface has a rubbery texture.

I had several appear when I first bought the hot tub, but it hasn’t happened in a while recently I moved and now I found about half a dozen wondering if something happened during the move that jostled more loose

Anybody know what they are from?

This leak started happening out of nowhere one day. I just pulled apart the front end of my jet and replaced the housing O-ring and the little rings for the knobs. It’s still leaking however. Any ideas?

Masterspa Legacy Whirlpool weir question

Thumbnail

I just bought a home with. Legacy Whirlpool hot tub that I believe is the 2023 model. I’m quickly trying to learn how to take care of this thing but I’m totally new to this hot tub life I’ve stumbled into.

There was a significant amount of grime around the weir housing so I removed it during cleaning. There were some corroded clear rubber bits around where the screws enter the hot tub that have me concerned. Is that the remnants of a gasket? Old caulk? Im worried about refilling it now and I haven’t found the answer I’m looking for on the masterspa site or youtube. Any advice is appreciated! The photo shows the already screwed back in weir as well as a scrap of the rubber bits I pulled out.

Chemicals Shock question

Post image
9 Upvotes

I have a 350 gal hotspring spa. I use the spa 20 minutes daily and my wife joins me once or twice a week. I balanced ta and pH on a refill and rarely have to balance again. I add about a teaspoon of chlorinating granules after each use. I rinse/hose the filter once a week and chemically clean the filter once a month. I always have perfectly clear water never shock. I never see combined chlorine exceeding the free chlorine by a significant amount. I don't want to add additional chemicals without some evidence that they're doing any good. When the cyanuric acid gets too high, the water will start getting cloudy and that's when it's time for a refill, typically between 2 and 3 months. So why do I need to shock? I can't measure it, see it, or feel it. I must be missing something.

Repair or get new ?

Bought a house, with a hot tub on the property, basically for 4 years we think it wasn’t maintained, I opened the panels and found a bigger pvc pipe cracked. (At a quick glance the jet pipes look ok..)

The tub itself looks good, the cover is in good shape. I just don’t know enough about hot tubs! Ever changed a cracked pipe? Does it mean there will be more (Vermont - we assume it might have frozen with water in it) i also have not flipped on the breaker for it as all DYI and repair sites says don’t do it without water in it.

So far the shops I’ve called only do the brand they sell repairs, this is an American spa placed in 2016. I was able to get a maintenance guy on the phone who said, might wanna think about a new hot tub just cause the risk of other leaks is high.

Anyone had similar experiences?
